WNW's Hannover C1.II Kornbeefs bash at it.
« on: January 18, 2013, 06:37:59 AM »
Well all,

Ive been quiet, got my hands on a D.VII before xmas and  found quite a few things I need to work on, Xmas came a D.VII (OAW) and Hannie under the tree for me. I'm saving the D.VII for the KOTS3 group build on Aeroscale.

I was going to save the Hannie but... welll... you know me.

As always I've veered way off the instructions.  So without any more ado here's my bash so far.

Inside I cut the fuel gage away from the tank, added some clesr discs to instruments along with new bezels to add a little depth.
Adding fuel control levers out of cut down wingnuts as opposed to etch too, I also added the pulley cable for what I presume to be the sliding panel under the rear floor & the rod for the generator clutch mechanism on the right side of the cockpits.
I decided after looking at the wrecked Hannie pics on WNW's site to not go too dark on the interior sides.

Now the oft discussed matte of the WNW lozengs (hand/sprayed/painted... their colours are nothing like Ronnie Barrs lovely profiles so I decided to spray my own, it worked to a reasonable degree. I got a bit carried away though and over lozenged the fuselage, still most will be overpainted but I want that *show through* in places effect.

The only real foul up was the blue on the underside loz, way too dark I think, still once oversprayed weathered and faded... who'll see it?

I'm planning on Profile B and going for *Red 5* resisting all starwars references... ops. except for that one.

Thats all for now folks.

Keith

WOW Keith!  That's fantastic looking lozenge you painted. ;D  The colors are really perfect to my eye.  How did you do it?

You're really moving right along. ;)  Great office too. :)  Well done.

Bob

Keith,
Can you elaborate a bit on how you "sprayed your own" Lozenge? Did you mask one block at a time, spray all one colour first etc? Looks great whatever the method but I'd like to know more on technique.
Cheers,
Lance ???

yes exactly how I did it, sprayed the whole in Tamiya dark yellow rattle can, masked the ochre, sprayed the colours on order of darkness so green - lilac - purple and dark green on the upper and almost the same sequence on the lower. Between each I gave her a thin coat of Citadel purity seal to try and ensure there was no lifting issues (all the paints apart from Tamiya primer and dark yellow were Citadel)

Once done careful scraping, sanding and overspraying Purity seal (satin laquer) and repeating has it almost back to a smooth finish, or appears so till the first coat of overspay reveals the horrors ::)

Hello Keith,

the spray template you made yourself manually or let the cut plotter? It is very nice work.

Cheers,

Wow, Keith!  You've been a very busy lad!  Brilliant work on the innards, as usual, and the fuselage lozenge is incredible.
Cheers,
Bud

Excellent work Keith! You have been very busy indeed.
The work on the fuse lozenge is excellent - almost a shame to see it sprayed over.

It's been great watching how you and Mark have done the lozenge.

Thanks all, much praise indeed, I'm humbled

Vladimir,  I just masked one colour at a time using Tamiya masking tape cut to fit in a random way, no plan, just using my eye.  I think I hit lucky, it could have all gone a bit wrong just as easy.  :o  I followed the profile in the handbook as a rough guide to what I could see.

Thanks all Keith
