I received this new Taurus Ur.I along with some of the Mercedes D.III manifolds, valves, lifters, and spark plugs last week.  The quality of these products have to be held in a pair of tweezers to be believed- photos don't do them justice.  When I first ordered them for some of my WNW kits, I surmised that I might just be guilding the lilly, but once installed they should represent a significant enhancement over the kit parts.

I hope that Lukasz will also produce a Gnome 9/Ur.II that we can use in our Roden kits.  Based on my stash, I'd need about a dozen!

Finally found the nerve to put my first WNW acquisition on the bench, their Albatros D-Va, and between the kit itself, the Taurus Mercedes parts, and the Gaspatch turnbuckles I'm really jazzed to get started.

......and WOW again! The detail is incredible. I have yet to order any of the Taurus releases however the list is growing; they are putting new stuff out at a phenomenal rate, much faster then I can imagine my wallet moving. Either this stops soon or I'll have to sell my truck!
Cheers,
Lance :o

I got my package from Mr.Lukasz last week. I have to say the resin casting is awesome . It looks like it will be a great looking engine for my Fokker E III . I also got the spark plugs which look great also.

Hi All,

Today  (day off :-)) I've spent part of the day constructing this engine. the detail is indeed incredible but... this build is not for the faint of heart I'm afraid.
Some of the parts are incredibly fragile and even looking at them can break them so to speak.
Especially the rocker mechanisms are very flimsy. first of all you have to cut the rockers with a fresh blade VERY  carefully from the carrier. (I ruined 2 before I got the hang of it, and as taurus offers only 2 spare rockers, there was no room for error after that.., thank god I've pulled it off...), and after attaching them to the cylinder heads, you have to be incredibly careful not to break them off again... I have the feeling that these parts should have been provided as PE parts instead of resin parts

After about 3 hours of sweat, high blood pressure and a lot of swearing, I got the engine together. All i have left to do is to paint the damn thing and to attach the wire harness to the spark plugs.

As said before, the details are incredible, but, although Taurus specifies that they go for the full detail without compromise, I do think they should reconsider this point of view and think about a better way to engineer some of their products. Otherwise, i'm afraid that many people will become demotivated and steer away from their products, which would be a pity.
Also, I think they should put a little bit more effort into their construction manuals.

All the best

Flip

Now, that is one cool resin engine. It sure to give a big Wow factor to the airplane that uses that engine.

I hate to ask - does it fit inside the cowl?

Hi Red Baron,

At first no. It is a tight fit depending how you put on the rocker arms . But the solution is to thin down the cowling to al most where you can see light through it . The cowling is thick plastic so it took a while to scrape out the plastic with a scalpel. then it slides in with no problems . You just have to keep test fitting .

                                                                                               Thanks ,

                                                                                                        Willi
