Dear Forumites,
I’m pleased to announce the publication of Volume 2 in the series ‘Memoirs of German Pilots in the First World War,’ with Aeronaut books:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/1953201504/ref=sr_1_6?crid=2I8M7HVZD8DAW&keywords=jason+crouthamel&qid=1658026656&sprefix=jason+crouthamel%2Caps%2C155&sr=8-6

This volume includes for the first time complete, new translations of memoirs by aces Erwin Böhme (‘Letters from a German Fighter Pilot to a Young Girl,’ originally published in 1930) and Emil Schaefer (‘From Infantryman to Flier,’ published in 1918).   It also includes Willy Rosenstein’s autobiography, which has never before been published. Rosenstein’s autobiography is a rather unique document, made available by the Leo Baeck Institute archive in New York. Rosenstein was a German-Jewish pilot who actually flew as Hermann Goering’s wingman in 1917 and survived the war, only to be persecuted after 1933 under Hitler before he escaped to South Africa where he trained a new generation of pilots who would fly against Nazi Germany.
The volume includes 126 pages, 51 photos and 8 color profiles.

I’m the translator of these memoirs and I provided introductions to each pilot, with analysis of their background and significance.

Volume 1, published in January, includes translations of memoirs by Buddecke, von Tutschek and Gontermann:

Thanks again to Jack Herris for his expertise at Aeronaut Books.

I hope you enjoy this new series!

Best wishes,
Jason Crouthamel
