1/72 Eduard SPAD XIII
« on: July 14, 2022, 05:47:39 AM »
Just completed this one.  Overall a good kit.  The build was straight out of the box.  The most challenging part was the rigging.  I used .004 stainless steel.

I used Mister kit paints.  Next time I will make my own aileron bellcrank assembly. The kit one was too thick.  I had to add the outer strut striations by hand as they were not molded in the struts. My first SPAD in decades.

Kit is the weekend edition depicting CPT Georges Guynemer  S. 504 SPAD XIII.  Weathering was done with graphite.

Very nice! The Spad in this livery, on any collection of the Great War allied's aircraft, is great to show some variation on the camouflage pattern colors.

Cheers,

Claudio

Lovely work and very impressive for 1/72nd, or any scale for that matter! One of My favorite SPAD XIII schemes!

Wonderful Spad XIII, RVW -

I've built the later version of this kit and agree with what you say regarding this one

A wonderful model in God's Own Scale! I take my hat off to you for making new aileron cranks - not the easiest of improvements to make.

Am I the only one who pulled one of these kits out of their stash and moved it to the head of the que after seeing this?  I also ordered some stainless steel wire.  I think I'm going to bust out the Blue Rider Easter Egg decals for it.

Thanks for the inspiration RVW.  You did an excellent job of it.

Stuart:  The rigging dove me crazy.  Be prepared for lots of aggravation.  The wire is so thin that I believe there is more wire in my floor  carpet  than on the model.  But of course I will build another.

If I had one in the Stash it certainly would have been elevated to the top of the pile. That being said, I may have something in the works  :-X

I have a spool of steel wire that I have never used for rigging. I just can't seem to figure out how "One Rolls it to straighten". It really would be handy to learn  ::)

RAGIII:  I ordered my steel wire straight so I don't have to straighten it. It is trial and error to get it to fit.  Anything with double flying wires is a challenge.
