Having mentioned this one in a previous thread I thought I'd post a few pics now that it's approaching the finishing stage.
Ignoring the aborted attempt at a Nieuport 23 (which became more of a test bed for techniques) This is actually the first plastic model kit I've completed since I were a wee boy although in the intervening years I've painted lots of figures and built many a flying model. These included, as it happens, 2 previous DR1's; one freeflight rubber model of about 14" span and a bigger one for control line with a whopping 48" span.
Anyway back to the present. One of the things which became apparent with the Nieuport was the amount of dust I was acquiring in the finish painting by hand so this is also my first attempt at using an airbrush as well
Here are a couple of pics from the earlier stages. Since the kit came with some etched brass I took the opportunity to put the interior together using this. In retrospect I'd probably use strip to build the interior frame, but it looks okay in the picture. Model was then sprayed with Vallejo air acrylics 'beige/cream' mix on top and a light blue underneath and the dreaded streaky finish attempted again with acrylics (I know they are a pain to spray and use for this sort of thing, but I'd got plenty from painting figures and thought learning to handle a completely new type of paint would be a step too far so the plan is to paint the whole thing with water based paint . . .)
Final pic is of the earlier flying model built a few years ago for indoor flying which is still lurking in the loft somewhere along with a Hasagawa 1/8? tripe partially built by my dad
