I just cannot believe my bad luck recently
« on: January 13, 2013, 09:03:43 AM »
All,

Would you believe it, whilst doing some housework this morning, managed to destroy ten of my models.   I have one of those Ikea glass display cabinets on the staircase landing (as well as one in the living room) which I needed to move to vacuum behind.

As I pushed the cabinet around, the top glass shelf fell (with an almighty crash) and cascaded down onto the other two taking all the models with it.    All the models in my cabinet were completely smashed to pieces.   Most of these were my older biplane efforts, but three of them (Roden 1/32 Pfalz DIII, Albatros DIII OAW and Revell 1/28 Spad XIII) were the ones I really liked.  You can imagine the language!

This is on top of our new cat breaking two (one the Revell 1/72 SE5a included in the recent group build) of them and then me dropping the Roden 1/32 Spad VII over Christmas whilst rigging.

This is all so very, very frustrating .............

I suppose the only ray of sunshine is that I now have some extra (available) display space.

Please god, no more model disasters!!!!

Regards

Dave

Heartbreaking stuff, sounds bloody awful.

I now know what an unbuilt, boxed WNW SE.5a sounds like when crushed by a very heavy loft ladder.

I thought that was bad, but your experience is terrible!

Ouch!!
I really feel for you Dave and all the effort they represented - but, like you say, more display space....
Are they all totally, absolutely irretrievable?

Thanks, mates -

Andrew - yes, all were literally crushed - only the fuselages survived sadly, so no chance of any repairs.

Seems to me you've expiated all your negative karma in one fell swoop, mate.  It's all gravy from here on out.  And like you said, more room for your newer projects.

Sorry to hear about this, but maybe you can make a diorama using the plane parts? Not trying to be a wise guy, but maybe some good out of the bad?

It could be worse... I have an A4 page of models destroyed in the Sep. 2010 and Feb. 2011 earthquakes. One day before I die of old age there is a chance that the Earthquake commission (the Government agnecy which handles earthquake claims) may pay out on them. Luckily, mostly diecast cars, just one WW1 aircraft.

Bon courage Dave following the display cabinet disaster.  Do you have a stockpile of unbuilt models that you can turn to and gradually build things up again?

You mention a cat. Now that brought back painful memories. A number of years ago one of our cats (now passed on to better things) sat on and broke the port undercarriage leg of a Tamiya Spitfire I was very proud of. By way of repair, it was the first time I ever managed to drill and pin something so small - the model I mean not the cat.  The wretched cat's sister had different preferences, taking it out on a beautifully hand-painted flag I had produced for a 15mm English Civil War figure.

Oh boy Dave, what a bummer, makes the cat destroying my FE2b seem minor in comparison, chin up mate keep building.

Cheers

Pete.

Thanks, gentleman -

I forgot to mention that I salvaged some 1/32 Eduard PE (German) seatbelts which I can use for my Roden Fokker DVI (future build) kit.

All the best

Dave

The moral a neanderthal like me takes from this is that men and housework just don't dovetail at all.

So sorry Dave, but it is only stuff, and you now have more display space, etc.

Still, what a bummer.

Use the complaints process Tony - it's the only way I could get paid  :-\

Coming soon! Right now working through the opt-out process so my house is fixed before I am too old to enjoy it.
