Thulin type D (modified MS parasol) - 1/72
« on: December 31, 2021, 07:19:12 AM »
Hello, though I’d share the latest from the work bench.

The Type D was a modified Morane Saulnier parasol, built on license but with a pirate-copied Le Rhone 9C engine. Two of them were donated to Finland during their civil war, and bearing the swastika emblem of their donor gave the forst insignia to the Finnish airforce. My model represents a Swedish machine: the S-mark was a short-lived insignia of the Swedish air forces used until 1915.

The model is scratchbuilt with a Smallstuffmodels engine. It’s miasing a Thulin decal on the cowl, but I have neither managed to source it or print my own.

For own reference: the cowling colour is German grey-green primer from Ak Interactive’s German WWI set. Thulin seems to have adopted this colour from an Albatros that got stuck in Sweden when the war broke out and ended up with Thulin.

Beautiful model torbiorn! It made me search for existing Thulin kits. Omega Models have quite a few in resin - B, D, E, K and LA.
It might be worthwhile contacting Milan of Omega, he may be able to help with the Thulin decal.

A very nice model!  The finish and detail don't let on that it's 1/72 scale or that it's scratchbuilt.

Lovely build and an interesting scheme. I like the look of the RLM grey. Excellent results overall.

A superb scratch build. It looks much larger than the True Scale - wonderful.

Gorgeous is my word too, a beautiful build of a subject I'm not terribly familiar with.

Very nice.  I love seeing conversions, vacs, short runs, scratchbuilds of lesser known types.

Very nicely done, especially in that small scale.
The genes of the Morane-Saulnier aircraft are clearly recognisable.

Cheers,
