Hello from Chicago
« on: January 04, 2013, 12:10:34 PM »
Hello everyone.  My name is Brian O'Neal.  I live outside Chicago.  I am a new face to WW I airplanes.  I am a professional Model Maker, I build prototype models for a living during the day, and I come home and try to build models at night.  Most of the models I build for my hobby up until now have been tanks.  I have a review of one of my tank model builds here. (  http://www.amps-armor.org/ampssite/reviews/showReview.aspx?ID=932&Type=FB  ) I have always loved WW I airplanes.  Until now they have been my guilty pleasure.  I have purchased four of the Wingnut kits, the Gotha G IV, Albatros DV, the late LVG and the Fokker D VII (OAW) kits.  I also have the Encore F1 and a Roden Spad VII.  As a kid I built the old 1/48th Gotha G V?  So I figured what better kit to start building the WNW Gotha G IV.   :)   So I dove in head first.  I will have a lot of newbie questions for you guys.  I'm sure the questions I have will be ones that have been asked before, so please have patience.  I have been looking around here and I am very impressed and a a little intimidated by what you guys are doing.  Here are a few pictures of my Gotha so far.  I know it's not perfect but I'm fairly happy with whats going on with it.

I just got the Pheon decals in the mail today for it.  I have a bunch of questions about them.  I'll post that somewhere else on this board.

Thanks,
Brian

Brian,
Welcome to our happy little place. From what I see in your Gotha photos we all should learn a great deal from you as well......beautiful work and great additions with the ignition leads and lifter springs. I'm sure from "poking around" here you have already determined that the group is not only helpful but also very knowledgable; there are a lot of really talented modellers here that I learn from every day.
Once again Welcome! I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work.
Cheers,
Lance

Welcome Brian!  I will echo everything Lance said.  This site has many great modelers of WWI aircraft, and from the looks of your Gotha photos, you can count yourself among them.  The engine and cockpit look excellent and very well done---I hope mine come out nearly as well when I get around to my Gotha! ;)

I will follow your build with great interest, and look forward to learning a great deal from you.  It's really great to have a professional model maker on board!

Regards,

Bob

Ah yes, Brian.  Time, that old bugaboo, parricularly for those of us who have not yet figured out how to retire from thee workjng world.
I've tried going to bed and geting up earlier, but that doesn't always work.  I guess we all need to find balance in our lives, but i agree with you, it can be a real challenge. We all do the best we can I suppose. Good luck with it!

Regards,

Bob
