Albatros D-Va in 1/33rd by Luis Igualada
« on: May 24, 2021, 10:36:33 AM »
Hello All,

I finally got some other things off my plate and am really missing both WWI models and working with paper so here we go with another.  It's from the same fellow who designed the SPAD I completed a while ago so I have very high hopes.  I've only just started with the seat, a former, the top part of the engine, tank and just cut out the ammo storage parts.  This will be a long term project that I hope will look nice!

Grab your scissors and glue...here we go!

Dan

Glad to have you back, Dan!  I will enjoy watching this one unfold (no pun--should be fold up!) under your skillful touch.

Best regards,

Bob

Looking forward to another gem, Dan. I wish Luis were more prolific since he is one of the best paper model designers out there. He has only two models - the Abatros D.V and SPAD X.III, but in several great schemes as available to purchase here:  https://ecardmodels.com/vendors/luis-p-igualada-paper-model.

It is Fantastic to see some activity on this board! Your start on the Albatros looks terrific. I do love the artwork that shows weathering and basic colors!

Thanks to you all!  It's fun to start this guy.
Just a tiny bit of progress.  I plan on working on her in earnest now but here are the beginning of the ammo cans and some more former work.

More to come!

I am always amazed at what people can do with paper and card models. Looks great thus far.

Thanks, Everybody.  So far, it's been steady as she goes!  Parts call for backing the paper on 0.5, 0.7 and 1.0mm card stock (in my case, balsa).  I learned from experience that those tiny differences are critical to fit!  So tonight was lots of cutting out, sanding and then finally getting some cockpit interior parts started with formers and even the little aileron pulleys on the floor.  They need to be rigged, but it's starting to slowly resemble an Albatros cockpit!

More tomorrow,
Dan

Thank you so much, Ladies and Gentlemen!  This is indeed the second model I've built from this designer. I did build his SPAD flown by Lt. Swaab.  It was a real treat to put together and turned out really, really well!  I assume this Albi will be more of the same.  So far, it's been just that.  Fun modeling time...

I got more of the forward cockpit done and added one more former.  Next will be the fuel (?) pump, spark attachment and of course the joy stick.  Looking suitably busy so far.

Thanks for looking,
Dan
