Thanks Rick and Alexis!
Tonight I tried working on the MGs.  I got one almost complete.  I tried to perforate the cooling jacket a bit.  Not perfect, but at least it isn't just a tube with lots of little white rectangles.  I'll make the second one nicer but these will look great once installed.
More soon...Dan

I don't think I would spend the time it would require to cut out all those tiny white squares ...I would definitely be crossed eyed for life !

Looking good Dan and will be marvelous when fixed in place .  :)

The Spandau looks great to me. I certainly would never be able to cut those tiny openings!

Thanks Alexis and Rick!

Now that my brother in law finished his visit, I can get back to a bit of modeling.  I got the other MG finished and installed both to their mounts.  Now I need to finish up the ammo chutes and a cover that goes over the middle between the guns.  Then I'll make a windscreen and then it's on to the exhaust.  I may try to make the spinner and prop tonight, we'll see!

More soon,
Dan

That looks SO good Dan!  1:1 to my eye.  You seem to have mastered the Albatros in paper.  Well done!

Best,

Bob

Thanks Alexis and Bob.  This kit continues to amaze.  I really do want to sit it next to a WNW example just for fun.

I got the basic exhaust and prop parts done.  They both need a little touch up but do look the part.  The exhaust is a bit too flat and the wrong cross section plus I imparted a sweeping bend in it to look more like the original.  I also needed to trim off a bit where each exhaust touched the cylinders as the whole thing stuck out way too far as per the kit.

Looking pretty awesome!  I can't wait to get the spinner done and then start on the wings.  More soon...

Thanks so much, Rick!

So I got my spinner done and painted it up.  It's a custom mix of red, yellow and a bit of white and it's close to the red nose band if not perfect.  Still, looks better than the first shot of the basic spinner pieces glued together!  A note for you all, however:  If you are a really awesome paper modeler, even these spinners butt-joined in layers can turn out MUCH BETTER than my attempt...to the point where there is no need to resort to filling and sanding.  I need to cheat and fill/sand/paint my parts with these types of shapes otherwise I'll be embarrassed!   ;D

Anyway, I like how it turned out.  I'll add the windscreen and then I'll start the wings soon!

Thanks for looking,
Dan

Fantastic Dan!  You have really mastered the paper props and spinners.  That looks like a plastic kit with a wood prop!  Thanks for showing the way.

Best,

Bob

Thanks Bob and Gene!  :)  This one sure is fun to make and present...

I got the landing gear, axle cover, bungees and safety wire installed.  The only thing (other than the bungees etc.) I did differently than the kit was adding thin piano wire cores into the gear struts.  This just makes them easier and more positive to locate and more robust too. The kit calls for thicker card cores.  I'm just more comfortable with wire.  Just some dabs of CA and boom-done!

Wheels next to fabricate...Dan
