1/72 Rumpler D.I
« on: April 09, 2021, 04:37:12 AM »
This started with the Formaplane vac kit, but not much was used. Essentially only the fuselage which I sliced up four ways to fit the Windsock drawing. Wings, tail and detail either were modifed from a Toko Pfalz D.XII kit or sheet plastic. Lot of work, but hey it's finished...

Looking great, well done! I was looking for the Formaplane kit of the Rumpler D.I and was told that it isn't worth the effort. The extent of scratch building in your model seems to verify this notion. However, when the only other option in 1/72 is the Merlin...

Those Ols Airframe Vac kits were a rough beginning to say the least! Your results are gorgeous!

Amazing what you accomplished.  I may in the future try using vacuform and injection parts together to make a decent model.

That is almost a scratch build. It is a truly super model - from a pig's ear to a silk purse.

Impressive!  Nice to see a Rumpler built.  I have a half finished Merlin on the shelf.  I'll definitely be using your pics for reference.  Thanks for posting it.
