SSWIII/8356/17//SWISS// Eduard/1:48
« on: January 11, 2021, 10:22:19 PM »
Good Day

One of last ladies done in 2020.
Flown by Fritz Beckhardt, landed in Rapperswil on 18.11.1918.
Despite little roughly kit the general outcome is quite promising provided that the wings ribs are sanded at first place ;)

That is a very nice model and a very nice unusual colour scheme, says he reaching for his 1/32 Roden kit....
Thanks for letting us see this K.

Fine model, striking colours, interesting subject. Very nicely done!

PS. Only those photos with the dark background are not quite convincing, too dark to my taste.

I'm working on this model now.  It is my first non-WNW kit, and my first WW1 in 1/48.  Can you explain a little more about sanding off the wing tapes?  How much did you sand?  Are they unrealistic as molded? Will the decals fit over them if not sanded?

thanks!

Dave

IMHO the designers preparing reedition of this kit were not related with WWI topics. Just let us have such kit as SPAD XIII released 8-9 years ago for the very first time. This kit is very light and delicate, many details which are very touchy. In contrary, the SSW is tough and “heavy” in perspective. When we are talking on wings, rib tapes  are overblow thus I have sanded them little bit. If you will not do that Aviattic decals will cover the space either way (those are quite gummy)

Very Nicely done K! I love the more unusual scheme. The engine is especially eye catching.
Funny thing is that I see no photos browsing with Chrome. I had to switch to Microsoft Edge. I am glad I did!
