1/48 Roden Fokkers & AeroMaster Decals
« on: January 10, 2021, 09:51:36 AM »
I have a number of Roden Fokkers in my build queue but have not actually taken one on yet.  I also have AeroMaster 48-611 with Hippert's checkerboard "Mimmi" and AeroMaster 48-612 with Sachsenberg's yellow & black diamond scheme.

Both the AeroMaster sheets were designed for the older DML kit.  My understanding is that the Roden fuselage is shallower and more accurate than the Eduard therefore may be easier to use for these two schemes.  It looks like Hippert's black & white checkerboard would be the easier of the two to adapt.

Looking for anyone's experience who may have tried this?   As well as any pointers on the Roden Fokkers.

TIA

I can not help you with the decals, I try to avoid checkers for that very reason, although I like the look. If they do not fit, they do not look right, so if they are not sized for that kit, you may need to mask and spray, a very long and hard masking job, but should get you great results.

I can tell you that the roden kits are great fun, they build op very good and are very well detailed, but the nose can be fiddly.

If you look around the net for build logs, you should find many good ones, helping you along.
Quick search turned up this one, hope it helps

I did find this build by Tom Cleaver and it was most helpful.   I've only built the Eduard D.VII so far but am looking forward to the Roden kit.  May be "fiddly" build compared to Eduard but the accuracy looks a bit better and price wise/ availability it's certainly better

Thanks for the feedback

Hi Rick ,

Can't comment on or if the decals will fit but I have built the Rodens kit a few times now as well as Eduards offering and I rather have the Roden kit . Cockpit details fair about the same , Rodens surface details are softer in some areas and the same can be said about the Eduard kit . Rodens engine is miles ahead of what Eduard gives you and you can model the kit with the engine cowl covers off which is not an option on Eduards .

Since you have several Roden's under your belt......what is your experience with the "N" wing struts.  Reading build reviews this seems to be the most difficult issue.   (Already know about the lower wing fit - not a big deal to fix)    Any problem with the landing gear?

Thanks

PS - I agree that the Roden engine is much better and truer to scale.  Haven't tried it yet but wonder if the Roden engines would fit the Eduard Albatros & Pfalz kits.

Guten Morgen Rick ,

My way of dealing with the " N " struts was to toss them and make new ones which is very easy , just needs some type of rod with the right diameter . Didn't have any issues with the undercarriage but can be tricky if one builds it with panels off .
Yes the Roden engine will fit inside the Eduard kit  ;)

Alexis , who still hasn't had morning java , but working on it  ;)

Thanks for your feedback Alexis.  Already had my two cups!

Did you toss the N struts because they were too short or no strong enough?
