Eduard 1/48 Albatros D.III "Voss"
« on: September 14, 2020, 07:17:49 AM »
Good day - This is the 1/48 scale Eduard Albatros D.III. I did the wings with Tamiya acrylics, and the woodgrain is oil paint over an acrylic base. The wheels are from a Roden Fokker D.VII since the kit ones seemed a bit small in diameter. The rigging is invisible thread, coloured dark with a sharpie.
Cheers,
Gary

Lovely work Gary, very nicely done. I've got a soft spot for Voss' scheme, having done it on a Roden 1/32 kit many years ago. I still have it in mind for the 1/48 kit, and yours will provide some inspiration for me :)

If there is one very minor thing you could do to improve the model, it would be to paint the fairings behind and in front of the lower wings - these were metal panels.

Good job on replacing the wheels, I agree the kit wheels are well undersized. Always struck me as odd that they never fixed that, just like the short legs on their DV kits.

Cheers,

BC

You're absolutely right, Brad - I knew there was something odd about how the fuselage looked when I pulled this one out of the box. But thanks for mentioning it - hopefully all fixed now with a few dabs of Vallejo acrylic  :D

Beautiful Gary, and hard to believe it's not 1:32 Scale! It must have felt like a shock scaling down from that huge Railway Gun you just completed! Certainly no loss of detail nor quality on the transition though!

Good looking Albie! I like your wooden tones. How did you attach the invisible thread. In the pictures it's difficult to see if there is something'extra' replicating turnbuckles or not.

Cheers

Another of your super models. The finish and tones are just right IMHO. I too am very fond of this scheme - I made a Revell Albatros in these colours very many years ago...

Thanks so much everyone for your kind words - I appreciate each one.

Hi Fredrik - the invisible thread was anchored by drilling holes in the wings and using cyano glue. A touch of thick cyano was also blobbed into place as a "suggestion" of turnbuckles, then painted black-grey.

Cheers,
Gary

Another treat Gary, beautiful Albie.I subscribe to your approach to turnbuckles in this scale, obviously it's a matter of personal preference but I stopped using turnbuckles a few years ago in anything smaller than 1/32 scale, settling for a suggestion using paint/glue in preference to spending the time saved on other projects.
Cheers,
Dave.
