H.M.I. 'Hydro monoplan 1' (Hansa-Brandenburg W.29 1:32)
« on: August 08, 2020, 06:26:38 PM »
I just realized that I never added this build to the 'completed models'

Guess it was around the time the chaos with WNW's... Well better late than never right?

The Hydro Monoplan 1 'H.M.I' was the backbone of the Royal Danish Navy Aeroplanes from 1920-1930.
It was a license build Hansa-Brandenburg W.29. No fewer than 15 aircraft of the type were built at the
Danish Royal Naval Dockyard. The performance of the H.M.I's was a significant advance for the Danish Navy.
Later in it's service the armament was removed to save weight. The H.M.I. was used solely as a reconnaisance platform

A little history:

In the fall of 1921, two Navy ships were modified so that they could carry an H.M.I. aircraft.
In the period 1922-25, the H.M.I's made several expeditions abroad, partly to train the crew but also to draw
inspiration and innovation that could benefit the continued work to develop and improve the Danish Air Service.
In 1922, three H.M.I's visited Rotterdam, where there was a large aviation exhibition. In 1923 they went to Sweden
and Finland with five aircraft. In 1924, a group of three H.M.I's visited the Belgian maritime air forces in Ostend.
In 1925 three visited Poland and the same year three H.M.I's flew all the way to Barcelona via Cherbourg.

The Danish Naval Officer in the photo of the H.M.I. has been identified as Otto de Lichtenberg.
He received a pilot's certificate from the Naval Academy in 1919.

Deputy Commander and Teacher at the Marine Station 1920-21. Chief of the Air Navy Station Avnø 1931.

Lovely rendition of a very interesting variant. Beautifully done. Is that the WNW Collision figure in Danish uniform? Nicely painted figure too.

That really is an interesting model, and a great conversion from the original kit. The engine and figure really set the whole off well.

The orig picture is interesting since he is not far away from the running airscrew ???

A very nice model. And a greatly unusual subject, which is what I like very much. If I ever tackle W.29 I will build it in this colours. Very very appealing. Thanks for sharing, Kent
