a small step forward for this build, the second coat is on and all seems well. I left the upper surface of the top wing, i'll put the second coat on that once the rigging is done and i plan to do the same on the lower surface of the lower wing. I'll let it dry another day then mask up to paint the cockpit surround with a wood effect.

managed to get the wood effect done in the last couple of days, a few touch-ins needed around the green and the final coat of grey is still needed but it's starting to come together. the effect looks quite drastic in the pics but it's a lot more subtle to the naked eye

Nice work so far, I have the Bentley version to build one day. Compared to some of their older ones, it looks to be one of Rodens best 1/72 efforts. (unlike their Fokker D.VII, which takes lot of sawing and sanding...)

The Gotha is a nice one, I built one some years ago as the G.II:

The full build review is here, though I'm sure you're not really needing it, and I would do things differnt now as well!

If the decals have a flat finish, beware... the later glossy ones seem better.

I've had a few battles with this build, it turned into the little plane that didn't want to be painted. There were certain areas where the paint just wouldn't stick and the slightest touch would rub it off. It then took me a few too many attempts to get the upper wing mounted, i finally got it mounted and it's not looking too bad, it's not dead square and i'll try and tweak it once the paint on the upper wing is dry. This is where i'm currently at with this build

I missed this tread before, very nice build of your Camel, I like how you managed interiors and the PC10 painting.

This one is certainly causing you problems, but keep at it because I am sure that you can ultimately beat it into submission. You are certainly showing ot who is boss at the moment.

Stephen.

Glad I’m not the only one who hd to fight the Roden Camel (though in my case I was responsible for some of the battles). I too found that the upper wing wanted to wiggle a lot: the struts are thin and a bit flexible. With such cases I find that structural bracing wires (i.e. mounted in the wings, not flexible like EZ-line) helps considerably. Stretching wires symmetrically (one left, then the corresponding on the right etc) makes it easier not to cause warping on the process.
