WNW Sopwith Triplane
« on: June 25, 2020, 02:30:44 AM »
Here is my first ever completed build on this great forum. I made many problems for myself along the way through clumsiness and absent mindedness but also through deciding to do a scheme not offered by any after market deals companies.

Dixie II is my favourite aircraft and is a replica held at Old Warden Aerodrome for the Shuttleworth Collection so I had to have a go at replicating the replica. Along the way I received so much helpful advice and encouragement from this great community, without it I would probably still be having sleepless nights worrying about trying to mask everything. Thanks guys, you've been a great help!

Well I'd better post some pictures and stop waffling. Before I do I had better point out that propeller is from Proper Plane and not one I made!

There are many little flaws but Dixie II is by far the best the model I have ever made so I am really pleased with the result. This little Triplane has tested me at every stage but taught me so much. Can't wait to get another one across the line now!

Many thanks for looking and once again a massive thank you to everybody who helped keep me going with their kind words.

Richie

There is something fundamentally amiss with a society which forces it's modelers to work for a living.

Richie,
What a great milestone, and you've arrived at it in true style! Beautiful job, more so for being your first completion and it's unique markings make it even more impressive.
So, after those well deserved cold ones what's next from that now well established Bench of yours?
Cheers,
Lance

Guys, thank you so much, you have no idea how happy you have made me feel. I am grinning like a Cheshire cat right now!

The suggestion of 2 cold beers is going to be acted on.  :)

I still have the Camel to finish and the Roden SE5a but I'm also quietly drawing up plans and experimenting with methods to enable me to build a 1/32 aircraft that has never been available as a kit. I won't reveal all just yet Lance because I may have to scratch a Le Rhone 80hp 9c and make Union Jack masks..... ;)

Many thanks again!

Richie the very happy modeller!

Thanks DrDave, Bob and Giuseppe, all the kindness from this great community is a great motivation to keep going back to the bench to try to improve my standard.

The celebratory cold beers were very welcome on this the hottest day of the year so far in London. :)

Your build and finish on that Sopwith is outstanding, Richie. Top notch modelling. Your attention to detail is appreciated, and your photography skills show off your finished project very well. Thanks for posting your inspirational photos.

You should be proud. That’s a stellar build.

I second what Dave has written. That is not just a kit which you have built, it is a unique model with many additions which any modeller would be proud of. If that is your first attempt at a biplane and your first build log on this site (which was also very good BTW), then you have set yourself a very high bar indeed. However I for one am sure that you will easily clear that with your next build because it will be a scratch build!!!!

To that I am looking forward with great interest and will be sitting in the front row ready for when you make your start. It will be wonderful to have another scratch builder on the forum, even if you do work in the wrong scale!!!!
