Amazing, not seen since 1918. No Pfalz D.VIII has flown since, and with an original ShIII engine.  Very glad to see this!  Hope he takes it on the airshow circuit when it opens up again.  Thanks for posting, Bertl.

Just after posting pictures of my Tom's Modelworks 1/48 model of the Pfalz D.VIII this month, I was spurred on to do an internet search of the type and came up with this amazing new material.
Full of enthusiasm, I was about to post a link - only to find Bertl has already drawn our attention to it. Apologies for not seeing this earlier and commenting on how splendid it is.

If I remember correctly only eight of these D.VIIIs made it into front line service, so to have one flying again, with an original engine too, is little short of staggering. Doesn't the engine sound fantastic?
Cheers Bertl
Sandy

Yes, this is a beautiful silver-grey bird - the engine sound is brilliant.
Smokes like an old steam locomotive when it starts  :D

Here a view into the cockpit - watch the control stick.
Very similar to the Wingnut Wings Pfalz D.IIIa control stick.
The biggest difference might be the "Schnirps-button" above the right handle.

.... and here the link to Mikael's second flight with his beautifull Pfalz D.VIII:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyxTZqC0Pok

He now has three superbly built German fighters from the First World War in his hangar, the Fokker Dreidekker Dr.1, a Fokker D.VII and now the Pfalz D.VIII
I could already see his both Fokker flying in the sky with my own eyes - a very impressive pleasure!

I re-watched this excellent video (and the sound is a real treat!) and found the DR.1 video after, both real treasures. His handling of the DR.1 is very impressive. I can understand why it was so difficult to match it's maneuverability. Great stuff!
Cheers,
Lance

Very nice, thanks for sharing! It certainly leaps off the ground like an interceptor.

I wonder how it starts, pneumatic or something? No prop swinging like on e.g. Kermit Weeks Sopwith Snipe.

That would be a treat. I now have to search for Sandy's thread  ... and then locate a Tom's Modelworks kit! Where did you get yours, Sandy?

Thanks Bertl for all the links. Made my day.

Gene ,

I wish you the best of luck on locating Toms Model Work's kit and I do hope you are able too . It is very very rare . I have one in the stash and I have been trying to find another one so I can have the D.VII and the D.VIII . I have heard though the Lone Star Models is releasing one but don't know when it has been saying it for years now . He announced it a few months back on Hyperscale .

I would like to see this one kitted in 32 scale even 48 scale .

Thanks for sharing the 3 video Bertl , just c     d myself and have to change my pants now . That sound of the engine is just wow ...wow ! And how she just glides through the air so gracefully ...hell with the kit I want a real one !
