Making Eyelets

Hi All,
First of many questions I expect I shall ask.
I have read the articles on making eyelets using copper wire and my question is this.
Is the wire you use just stripped out of ordinary mains cable i.e. old appliance cabling.

I used to do it that way, then I bought some 0.2mm copper on a reel. Best stuff was telephone wire, not the solid cored stuff
Making a suitable hook to form the eyelets is tricky, I have a sewing hook thing that works well

I use NiChrome wire for my eyelets. Made tools as shown by our founder:
