WNW Albatros D.V A supposed quick build that isnt.
« on: November 17, 2012, 10:12:17 PM »
I started this as a sideline project while working on the AMS albie... But as always things are never so simple in beefland.

Anyway heres a few in prog pics. Paused during rigging due to Loctite superglue inadequacies (its crap) Rigging points and turnbuckles keep coming apart.

Thats all folks... for now.

Beautiful aircraft Keith! Very realistic finish and striking Albie scheme.  The light wood looks excellent.  Are those Pheon decals and lozenge? Nce to see someone at the controls, too.  ;) ;)  Nice work!

Regards,

Bob

Thanks Bob,

No the decals are from WNW's The Bavarians sheet and the loz is from Wood & Wire, pretextured, It's lovely but quite fragile to use.

Wow! Your woodgrain effect is a close to real plywood that I've seen. She's a real beauty all around. The inclusion of a pilot figure certainly enhances the model too. I may have to look into that myself.

Cheers,

Chris

Keith,
Knowing your skill levels the fix for the rigging problem should be easily done. Very nice model, I really like the textured Lozenge. Looks like a better and easier method the the extra layer of Microsculpt. Can you provide info / a source for "Wood & Wire"? I couldn't find it on Google.
Cheers,
Lance

Chris, I can't take credit for the wood texture, its HGW's decal, fragile, frustrating but nice once you get it in place.

Lance Nordlands hold it, I think Hannants may have just started stocking it.
It's quite fragile to use I painted it liberally with Klear before using it and let that dry off which seemed to help.
http://www.nordlandmodels.com/category/decals:908/ is a link to it.

Excellent work. Thats a great scheme and similar to the Kalmunzer Alby (8 point stars) that Pheon is going to release which I wait for with breath held....

Looks real nice. I think you're doing a fine job. I use el cheapo CA I pick up at the dollar store; works fine.

Absolutely gorgeous, Keith.  The wood grain is superb and your paint work is , as always, brilliant.
Cheers,
Bud

As others have mentioned, I do like the pilot. What figure/brand is it? The compliments others have posted apply here as well.

CA has a definite and relatively short shelf life once opened.  Keeping it in the fridge will extend it, but I'm too lazy to go downstairs from my workbench every time I need some  ::) .  My Zap or Great Planes brand CA usually lasts about 6 months before it goes off.

Warren Thee pilot is von Richtofen from Andreas Miniatures, he came with their resin release of theDR.1 years ago and has been gathering dust. I don't think they released it seperate but might do if enough showed an interest, the detai is pretty good. Though maybe recast in resin as WM is quite heavy. (I had to cut his legs off below the knees to get him in... lol

Beautiful work, Keith.  That's a very eye-catching scheme, too.

Adding a pilot's figure is a very nice touch. But i doubt that he would have flown with the bar still attached to the fuselage that was used to raise the end off the ground...

Was the bar/tube removeable? The latest drawings from Windsock would indicate otherwise. Time to rummage through what references I can scrape up I guess.
