Thank you very much for your kind words!
LetteringIt's been a long time since I've been here
In the meantime I continued working on the race plane.
The scratched rudder still got ribbons and is now ready for painting.
The fuselage and the tail unit I have primed white:
After painting in a linen shade I painted the lettering with the masks provided by a friend.
What can I say? I did not like it, because my template was not correct
The problem was also a cheerful mix of different times. After the race in Monaco, the biplane was converted to wheels and was freshly covered. The "Sopwith" lettering looked different after that.
So paint removed (the Alclad primer was strong enough) and first of all a seam from an etched part was added.
Then I familiarized myself into the vector drawing program
Inkscape - great tool!
I prefer a generic program instead of some special programs e.g. for cutting plotters, the know-how can be used more widely, is not dependent on any updates by a mnafacturer and Inkscape runs on my Linux computer.
With the help of original pictures I redraw and cut the masks.
This is how it stays now, here the left side:
And right:
At the tail I added floats, water rudder and struts to the elevator.
For the water rudder I soldered a sheet metal plate into a slotted brass tube and soldered the reinforcements.
Elevator and rudder have received their linkages.
Except for a few fittings the tail is now finished.
And here the struts are on the fuselage and the fuselage on the floats for fitting test, that's how it will look like.
It doesn't look like much progress, but it was a lot of work.
Cheers,
Frank
