WNW Triplane N5910
« on: December 14, 2019, 01:48:31 AM »
Here’s my interpretation of a photo in the last page of the Triplane data file. I think it shows one of the three Oakley built aircraft as the pitot is on the starboard. The other two are photographed at a similar time, so I think this is N5910. I found onlinethat it spent time at SEAFIS at Shoreham. A lot of aircraft there featured patriotic schemes after the armistice. I think this aircraft was red white and blue. The wings are all different but are the same shade as the fuselage stripes. The tail is an educated guess. Figure is Kellerkind

You know, placing the pilot walking away from the 'plane rather than towards it is very clever. I like that very much

Dave,
What an eye catcher! I've never seen this scheme before, and it is indeed unique. Nicely done and something completely different. Be sure to post a few shots in the "Show us your Sopwith Triplane" section, it will add a lot of sparkle!
Cheers,
Lance

There’s a picture from the front on the last page of the windsock data file.. you can’t see the tail but the top wing is clearly split colour and the tail stripes match the shade of the fuselage ones. I surmised the wings would go red, white blue, red white, blue. Tail is an educated guess.
If I did her again, I wouldn’t turn the metal parts as the other two Oakley triplanes have plain metal cowlings, with the ovoid cheek panels.

I like the unusual markings especially but even without this livery this would be a candy to my eyes. A very nice model!

Wow that is a striking scheme - even for the post-war period! It is surprising to see a familiar form in such a different set of colours - more please.

Stephen.
