Dear group,
Let me introduce myself.
I am Erik te Groen, 46, single and one of my hobbies is scale modeling, both in paper and plastic. I design and build paper space
models (and some other types of models) and make them available for free on my website
www.ariespapermodels.nl .
I built my first model at the age of seven, although until the age of ten, I did not build a lot, ofcourse. However, it was soon clear,
I had found an interest, that I would keep to this very day.
My uncle was the one who REALLY got me hooked on scale modeling, since he was the one who gave me a kit every two or four weeks.
He and my aunt would visit, mostly on Friday evenings, and I had to go to bed, I was only eight or nine. Very often, when I walked
into the living room the next morning, a scale model would be waiting for me, on the table. It was always a surprise what he had bought
for me. When I think back about the models I've built, and what they are worth now....man.....I should have put them in a safe! Most,
if not all of those models ended up in the bin or had a fire cracker inside, on January 1st... What was I thinking......
My interest is in airplanes and formula 1 cars, but I have build just about every type of kit in existance. Ships, cars, tanks, airplanes,
you name it, I've built it. Wood, paper, resin, metal and plastic. In my stash I have three vacuform kits, this type of modeling will be new
to me. Thanks to the unlimited info on internet, it should not be too difficult. Needless to say I have built models in every scale.
Scale modeling is just something to keep me busy, and happy. I do not build museum quality pieces nor have I ever produced a model,
worthy of entering a contest, although I am contemplating to test my skills and try really hard to produce a winning model.
1:32nd scale models are drawing my attention, more and more, especially World War 1 airplanes. The amount of colours, camo schemes
and different types of airplanes are overwhelming. These airplanes look far more appealing to me than WW2 airplanes and what came after.
The level of skills, techniques and patience that is needed to produce a stunning model is also very appealing, it really adds a challenge.
I signed up because I can not think of a better place to share information then this forum, on (one of?) the best website(s) about WW1 modeling !!!
Cheers,
Erik.
