Pfalz D III gun appearance
« on: November 20, 2019, 03:06:27 PM »
I wonder if there are any photos or sketches of the appearance of the gun barrels/muzzles for the early (buried) guns on this airplane?
I searched  back on this forum, but failed to find anything useful. I am futzing around with an old Aurora/Glencoe Pfalz kit in 1/48th, would like to represent the guns, as they are not shown in the kit.
Thanks in advance, Dan

That certainly does help! I did find a scrap view of the starboard side that appears very similar, so I think I can proceed. Thank you very much Von B.  The other photo also shows the sheet metal panel along side the engine, so now I have to wonder if those panels related to the early mg mountings and thus typical of the early Pfalz D.III a/c, or were more related to cold weather operations.....

Being new to this forum, I am just learning the search function. A search for Pfalz D.III offered a contemporary article from Flight Magazine as the third entry which was very helpful.  So much to digest here....

Hi!
The old german magazine "Flugsport" published some sketches about first version of the D.III with buried MG.

This is the link of a book that have these sketches too.
Hope useful!
