First completed WNW kit a Fokker E. IV
« on: October 21, 2019, 03:34:25 AM »
Finally finished a WNW kit after seeing all the beautiful builds on here. I started a Sopwith Dolphin but set it aside after running into some challenges. This is only my forth finished model since getting back to modeling as an adult. A lot has changed since the 70's. It was built OOB except for the rigging which is Easy Line and Bob's Buckles. The paints were mostly Tamiya as called out in the instructions. Please be critical so I can learn from my mistakes. It wont hurt my feelings.

I am not a kit builder but I cannot see anything in the photos that I wouold wish to criticize. In my eyes that is a very good model indeed and from one who is only restarting after a long break I would suggest that you have maintained a very high level of skill.

Looking forwards to seeing more of your models on this site.

Stephen.

Good to see you here, Albert.  As far as your build goes, it looks very good.  You've tackled weathering, rigging, and wood grain.  I have only a question - what is the spot on the trailing edge of the left wing?  Just a mishap?

Hang around here and you'll pickup a lot of info.

Beautiful job, Albert!  Hard to believe this is your first WWI build.  Looks like you've been at it awhile.
Cheers,
Bud

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I can't wait to start my next one, maybe the MVR Albatross.

As far as the spot on the trailing edge of the left wing it's a little error on my part. I accidentally drilled the hole for the airspeed indicator I drilled it in the wrong place and tried to fix it. I'm in the process of figuring out the best way to repair it correctly.

Outstanding work!  All the more impressive in that you've only recently returned to the hobby.  A word of warning, if you've not already discovered it...WNW kits are highly addicting.   ;)

Cheers,
Eric

Thanks Eric, I think I may have caught the bug already. I'm now trying to decide which one to build next. I have the MVR Albatross in my stash and it's calling my name. I was a little afraid to start a biplane but after finishing this one it doesn't seem as challenging. I'm looking forward to doing the wooden fuselage too.

Beautiful model Albert, I'd say your absence from the hobby all those years hasn't done any harm to your talents considering this little gem.
Now, bring on that Albie!
Cheers,
Lance

Thanks for the nice comments everyone. I appreciate the encouragement. Started the Abatros today. I'm going with the red wings and natural fuselage version that MVR was wounded in the head.

I'd be happy if that was my 5th WNW coming back to the hobby let alone the first!

Very well done, Albert  ;)
