Mike, this is a reference build of this original Camel conversion!
Your clean and careful build left me speechless (sorry) so I jumped only in to raise your attention at some points.
I will use your report definitely when I trying to do my conversion in 1/48.

Only one question after examining the final pictures:
Were the chassis struts made of wood or metal? Painted in PC10?

Again, this model is a beautiful representation of the original!

Cheers,
Frank

Your build log was fantastic. Watching this one come together was a pure joy. The conversion work, details, painting and rigging are all first class!

Hi Frank,
I have the Windsock International Vol 14, No.4 printed in July/August 1998.
It was my main reference for the build, but the information is pretty scant and certainly doesn't go into details of construction, other than general statements such as 'wood and metal components in the wing'.
Looking at existing photographs and the fact that the 'Swallow' was based of the 'Camel F.1', leads me to believe that the fuselage 'cabane' struts were wood and varnished or painted.
The only photograph of the cockpit shows metal supports for the struts which again seems to indicate that the struts were wood.

Awesome result, Mike.  The PC decaling adds another level of visual interest, in addition to the weathering and small details.

Hi Mike,
I was one of the followers of the building of this masterpiece because one of my "next projects" will be a Swallow 1/72 scale version from a Revell Camel.
"Masterpiece" is the only name came to my mind to describe your model.
Not only modelling, but study and research at high level.
Many compliments,
Roberto
