So after having made my introduction, I now make my first contribution here.
Long ago, I liberated two models from the garage of a fellow modeller. The intention was to venture into WWI-modelling and especially try some new techniques like simulating wood. I made some progress on one of them, not without problems along the way, and then I think it stalled at the point where I was to attach the topwing and figure out how to rig it. Well, I've now resumed the builds and the goal is to finish them and learn along the way. Hints and tips will be happily accepted.
First up, some pictures of the D.III, unfortunately dustier than necessary. Built almost straight from the box, including the paint instructions. I've used Uschi van der Rosten's woodgrain decals, which was problematic in that they tended to lift from the surface when I masked over them. Rigged using Uschi's elastic thread and home cut Albion Alloy tubing - damn difficult to cut them consistently.
The black and white band came as a decal, but I masked and painted it instead. The masking of this then caused the woodgrain decal to lift and you can see my clumsy patching to the right of the fuselage band.
Here are a couple of pictures of the D.V. I was planning to use woodgrain decals here as well, but last night I made a go with oils instead. It came out a bit too dark I believe - it should be light birch plywood I believe. Apart from that, I'm quite pleased with the look.
