Postwar DH9a ‘Ninak’
« on: September 24, 2019, 05:33:56 AM »
Hello all,

The Ninak is done  :)

Beautiful, beautiful kit, I think this is the best Wingnut’s kit I’ve made, and that’s saying something! I can’t think of any flaws at all.

I can’t get over how much drag this aircraft must have had with all the extras hanging in the airflow - how it flew is beyond me..

The paint masks were beautiful (thanks Fredrik ;) ) and lift the kit a notch.

I hope you like the pictures, any feedback welcome as ever.

Thanks for following along with the build log too.

Guy

Ps apologies... lots of pictures!

I agree with Rick.  Everything is top notch.  Weathering is awesome.

Not too many photos after all. I could easily takke much more and watch them endlessly. Yes, DH.9 and DH.9a have something to them. And you did all the justice to this lovely kit. I wish mine looks half as good as yours - I have one in my stash. Maybe next project, after RE8.
One remark - left rear outer interplane strut seems to have caught banana disease virus... Maybe some delicate push to straighten it would help...

Wow Garry that is a simply outstanding model. I agree that with all the bits hanging off the airframe it is a wonder that these machines ever flew. However you have truly captured the characteristics of these aircraft, and presented a most realistic model. Like Prez I do not think that there are too many photos, but it is the right rear interplane strut which has the banana disease. Nothing that a gentle nudge will not put right though.

Stephen.

Superb build, Guy. The plane looks very realistic, all these different tones  of silver and the massive amount of details...just great.

Thanks Bob, Manni, Robin, Juan, Stephen, Prze, Ken & Rick!

Yes, only just noticed the bendy strut  :o  I remember rigging that end as I glued the top wing to hold it in place - and I pulled that one (too) tight!

Guy!
Not a problem! But you make it sound as if you didn't have anything to do with the result. No matter how good the kit is (or the masks), it still needs a master to turn it into a masterpiece! Looking forward to future builds! /Fredrik

Guy, your model looks great and shows a huge amount of details. I also like the paintwork with the light wheatering.

You talk about a perfect kit - I think it would be perfect, if WNW put metal struts into the box. It should be possible to do that, as Eduard is creating bronze gears for some of their kits. I heard, that in long term the thin struts (due to scale size) could not keep the rigging load, and one of your outer struts seems already start to bend :(

Great work again, I like you style!

Cheers,
Frank
PS: Crazy - never noticed a biplane with a replacement tyre, and this located just below the exhaust ;D

Yep, metal struts would be nice, but as I mentioned, it was my fault for over tightening that end..

Yes, I thought that too re the positioning of the tyre, but I have seen one positioned there on a period photo!
