Wingnut Wings Junkers D.1 and Copper State Models figure
« on: September 07, 2019, 10:44:37 AM »
As well as running the Forum, holding down a day job, running a Group Build competition and recovering from two eye cataract surgeries in a month, I also make the occasional model!

So here's the latest lurching off the workbench- Wingnuts' beautiful Junkers D.1 brought to life with Copper State's outstanding ground crew figure. The build was greatly assisted by Ray Rimell's excellent Building the Wingnut Wings Junkers D.1 Windsock Modelling Special.

Rather than use the kit supplied machine guns I replaced them with GasPatch Spandau 08/15s which are breathtakingly good enhancements of an excellent kit. They are essential to this model given how visible the guns are on the finished airframe.

As with all of my builds the model is brush painted using home mixed acrylic combos of Vallejo, Humbrol and Citadel paints.

The Copper State Models' growing range of pilot and ground crew figures in their imaginative poses really bring a model to life. In this case the crewman is tending to a machine just off the production line in 1918 so minimum weathering.

Next off the bench will be a Copper State Models 1/35 Lanchester armoured car, an absolute joy to make and a lesson to other manufacturers on how to produce top quality WW1 armoured vehicles.

Excellent build, Dave  ;)
Did the Spandau 08/15's slot into place without any drama?

Cheers,
Bob

Lovely Dave  :)

The figure sets it off beautifully.

VERY nicely done Dave, the figure and base really add to the appeal of the model. It's hard to believe the paint work is all hand brushed, good to see that art form is still alive and thriving! I've seen a completed Lanchester, I'm sure you'll really enjoy completing that little gem.
Cheers,
Lance

A great looking model and the excellent figure really sets it off.  It's hard to believe its brush painted!

A multi-tasker! Considering all the distractions that you have had to contend with that is an excellent model. The figure really sets it off - it draws the eye to a focal point but does not dominate the model at all. The brush painted finish is as good as any airbrush job - as a fellow painter I really appreciate what you have done. Many congratulations.

Stephen.

Nicely done!  Excellent work with the brush.
I shall never forget my admiration for that German pilot, who single handed, fought seven of us for ten minutes. I saw him go into a fairly steep dive and so I continued to watch, and then saw the triplane hit the ground and disappear into a thousand fragments...James McCudden

Looks really like the mechanics found a problem during checking a new machine out of the factory.
Very nice model!

I think, the tyres are a bit on the dark side, but that is criticism on a very high level!
