Roden 1/32 scale Fokker F.1 (DR.1)
« on: August 08, 2019, 11:27:15 AM »
Seeing as there's all the excitement today around Wingnut's announcing a 1/32 scale Fokker DR.1, here's one we just completed!

This is the Roden 1/32 scale Fokker F.1, the first iteration of the Triplane, finished in Voss' markings. This scheme will also feature in the Wingnuts kit.

The Roden kit presents no major challenges and makes into a very nice model. It's worth appreciating amidst the DR.1 hullabaloo that the Roden kit should not be ignored.

This model was brush painted and the Fokker streaking is brushed on, not a decal.

Dave,
The streaked finish is fantastic. Thanks for posting it.

And I agree 100%: Roden Kits are worth to remember.

That streaking finish is brilliant. Come to that the model in general is not bad!!

Personally I do not understand all of the hullabaloo about WNW releases - they are undoubtedly good kits but as you state, there are other very good kits around too.

Wow Dave , you are a roll with another fantastic build . Your streaking is fab !  :) What type of brush did you use , stiff or a soft one ?

Thanks everyone, much appreciated!

Terri - I used a reasonably firm synthetic chisel edged brush for the streaking but the result you see is after lots of failed experiments! Ultimately I laid down a very light blue acrylic base and then used an olive drab which was not quite drybrush but getting toward that. I worked much of the paint out on a card then dry brushed it in a streak pattern. Early efforts looked bad because I was trying to achieve too much too fast, so the final version was actually multiple dryish streaks built up to the finished result.

The Roden decals definitely need replacement as these are their weakest point but as a kit, their DR.1 is quite acceptable.

cheers

That is an impressive build, Dave.  The brush painted streaking makes is doubly impressive.

Dave,

Very nice   I like it !

Now you just need a 1/32 Voss figure to go with it =).
