Messieurs !
Art, Relaxation, Creativity, Skill
When I was a boy modeling was an isolated hobby in the village I was born. Almost all of my lads thought it boring and the
girls were irritated by the military tinge.
That did not keep me from becoming a dedicated modeler - and of course, we played with the models, I repainted them once in a while and so on.
While modeling one used what was handy and of course the models were not perfect at all; this did not matter, because at this
stage they seemed to be perfect.
But instantly it was not only the process of "Basteln"-kit building that caught me but also the interest for the real thing, the
background, which- as a little boy was made out of scarce information combined with imagination.
What I love is to open the box, the smell of the new kit, the process of building, how-to-do-ideas coming to my mind,
imaginations of the real context, painting and airbrushing (sometimes I only build to paint), feeling satisfied by doing all those things, feeling happy with the results, the suspense before showing it to my loving spouse ( her artistic eye knows no mercy),
take a look at the built model often, the smell of Humbrol paint (already burnt into my brain).
As a boy one learns fast; when reopening an old spare parts box after a quarter of a century I still knew from which model
the parts came... .
Some label modeling as "childish" or do not take it for a "serious" hobby; but playing is not cheap fun but the source of headway
and development.
Furthermore there is a lot to gain from life that has nothing to do with getting money out of it.
Through modeling I learned a lot .
