Question on scratch building a Windscreen
« on: April 13, 2019, 07:56:33 AM »
I am attaching a photo of Pere Dorme's Nieuport 17. It has a Non Standard Windscreen( Although this also appears on Guynemers N1530). So I played around with a couple of ideas which failed. I am now seeking assistance with any and all Ideas and suggestions welcome!

Proper procedure would be to utilize a contour gauge.
This tool gives the user the ability to take a profile of the fuse curves. These can then be transferred to the chosen material.
A temporary gauge can be made to suit from available materials.
The contour gauge is the custom fabricators friend.

Thanks Guys. I tried the paper pattern method first. The down side is that the bottom portion follows the fuselage and cockpit opening contours. When a paper form was cut it went well along the bottom but also curved at the top instead of being a straight line. I own a contour gauge and will give it a try. Perhaps someone will come to my rescue and do an aftermarket PE and Film set  ::)

Make a master of any material you like and I can cast a clear part for you if you like. Make sure the section witch represents the glass is smooth and polished!

Thanks for the very kind offer Ron. I will certainly give it a go on my next Nieuport as I intend to do Guynemers 17 with Aluminum Doped fuselage and Camo wings. It also had one of these Non Standard windscreens.
