Mengs Rolls Royce Armoured Car 1914 Pattern.
« on: March 11, 2019, 03:35:43 AM »
As soon as I saw that Meng was releasing this kit I looked for it and picked one up. A nice simple build that looks pretty neat. I'm almost done but its been sitting waiting for the finishing touches for a few weeks. I was going to make one commanded by Lawrence of Arabia but I just wanted to finish so went with the RNAS Western Front version. You can make anything up to the 1924 version as seen in Africa in WWII. The only thing I did different was using the wheels from my CSM Lanchester. The PE wheels sucked on this kit and the CSM wheels just slipped in and look way better.

 James,
She looking good my friend. I have the older Roden kit of the same version as your Meng kit. Never got around to building it though. Looking forward to seeing more.

 James,
Beautiful, and I have to say it looked even better yesterday at our Club meeting here! Looking forward to seeing the finished and weathered final result.
Cheers,
Lance

Thanks. Borsos you wont be disappointed I think. Nice easy build with lots of room to improve. Just the wheels were disappointing.

I have an EBay store I check and they had it. Prices were good but seem to be going up. Still it was inexpensive. Need at least 1 more though.

A note of caution to anyone building the Meng kit as the WW1 version.
The Meng kit has the taller turret introduced in 1919. Earlier R-R a/cs can be identified by lower turrets.

It seems I haven't been keeping up with this section of the Forum very well. Excellent build James. You and Bud are tempting me to branch out into armored cars  8)

Likewise, don't know how I missed this, considering I've recently built the Roden version. Very interesting to see this, thanks for showing it off.

From the look of the PE, I think you made the right decision on the wheels. The Copper State ones are impressive, aren't they. But most odd that they didn't allow for the turret height difference. I think you've found a more accurate shade of 'Battleship Grey' than I did ;)

Just look at that chassis from below. These cars would never have survived today, in the era of IEDs would they?

Cheers
