Scratchbuilt 1/32 Aviatik Berg C.I (Lo)
« on: February 13, 2019, 02:37:36 AM »
Hello everyone,

Knowing Des' love of scratch building, I decided to do a scratch built Aviatik C.I. No pictures yet other than some plain sheets of styrene, I think I will do this one (a picture from the Internet)....

I'll be using the "Austro-Hungarian Aircraft of World War One" book as a guide.

More to come,
Mark

Thank you Juan, Giuseppe and Rick! I hope to do it justice.

I had time to go to the local copier and scan the drawings up to 1/32. This will be fun.

Thanks Terri, Greg and Marc!

I thought I'd have something to post today but the balsa I have on hand is not the correct length so I just ordered some. I believe I have the basic interior and lower wing attachment figured out so I'll update as soon as I have something tangible to show.

Thanks all,

Mark

I will be following this with interest as a fellow scratch builder. What materials are you going to use to build it?

Stephen.

Hello Stephen,

Thanks for looking in. I ordered the wrong balsa (1x2x12 instead of 2x2x12) so I've got it reordered. My plan is to create a balsa shape that I will glue the outer styrene around. I'll post pictures as I go along.

 Mark,
Looking forward to seeing your wings. But in the mean time I've a question for you. Will you be modeling a closed cowl or exposed engine open one? If you choose the exposed route where do you find a suitable AD engine. Always very interested in AH aircraft, still hoping someone will market a kit in 1/32 scale. I may well need to go your route and scratch one too.

Hello Gregory,

I think I'll be doing an open cowling with a Copper State 1/32 AD engine, I just put it on order with Edgar. Looking forward to getting started but I'm still kicking myself over ordering the wrong size balsa to make the fuselage. I'll be using it mostly to create the forms to vacuform the engine cowling area.

Thanks!
Mark
