Halberstadt CL.IV Pilot and Observer Seats
« on: February 10, 2019, 04:15:02 AM »
Hello everyone. I am working one a Mirage 1/48 scale Roland built Halberstadt CL.IV. Now I know their wasn't a seat for the observer, only a wide strap
to sit on with a back strap. Is there any evidence for shoulder harnesses for either the observer or pilot? The observer would have had to have one heck
of a grip to stay put during evasive maneuvers.

Thanks from Kevin in a very snowy Port Orchard, WA.

 Kevin,
A very good question you've asked my friend. Given the time frame the CL.IV was in service I'd assume (Dangerous thing to do at times) was equipped with a shoulder harness for the pilot. As for the observer I don't believe he would be wearing a shoulder harness. It would be too restrictive when manning his MG. That being said the observer surely would be secured in some manner. Perhaps a waist belt with strap bolted to the frame. Sorry I can't be of better help.
