Archer rib tape and stitching?
« on: June 04, 2016, 05:55:53 AM »
Hello, chaps,

Has anyone used Archer Rib Tapes and Stitching? It looks like a very interesting product but I wonder how effective it is for faithfully and accurately replicating the look of stitching under rib tapes in scale?

Any information would be most appreciated.

Best Regards,
DP

I think My Amigo Bud used some in 1/48th IIRC. I am sure he will either confirm and give an opinion or deny. I have a 1/32nd set but haven't used it to date. My overall impression is that they will look good but like WNW kits when all is said and done are probably slightly overscale. So  are you after the really cool look of the stitched tapes or scale accuracy? Artistic license and all. JMHO,

PS: Buy several as I don't think you get enough of one kind on one sheet to do all of the tapes needed for an average bi plane.

Have a look here DP, I did a review of this product some time ago, it may give you a few answers.  http://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=1423.0

I recently added a heat sealer to my Buckling empire and with it came a nice surprise. Using a low heat (2 second timer) not only does it seal my wee bags, it also leaves a nice strip that looks like subtle hessian. With the right material I would think seat belts and rib tapes could be possible. I need to play around with it before I can make anymore grandioso predictions.

I did use them on my Eduard 1/48 Tripe and as Des indicated in his review, they are a little difficult to keep straight, so a little practice is recommended.  I didn't do that.  Just straight to the model.

Once painted, they looked okay, though.

I highly recommend them .
Cheers,
Bud
