I clear coat all my models w dull cote.it will destroy decals if not applied properly . my method is as follows. After I'm finished paint and decal, I coat with future(klear) leave dry for several hour or a day. Then build up very very sparse light coats of dull cote.you must let each thin coat completely dry. After about 4 thin coats cure you can spray thicker coat. Sometimes especially if decals are thick it can develop a raised area over decals. I use fine abrasive paper or pads to sandit back and repeat the process.if done right you end up with decals that appear to be painted on with a consistent matte coat overall.

Operation rescue:

If I hadn't rigged the right side of my model yet I would have the wing stripped off paint too, but now I just repainted cosmetically. At last I gave it a little more mud splatter than I had intented to do. But an observation airplane at Verdun in the spring of 1916 prepairing the big offensive went through a lot of mud...
You can see the difference in shade between the new and the original stabilizer. Well, I'll have to live with that. It was obvious that the original shade wouldn't be replicatable...
I wanted to finish that built immediately, but I run out of brass rod for the rigging. For luck Bob's buckles are delivering as fastly and as reliable as always, but for Eastern there's no postage delivery here... So at least I achieved the status quo ante.
Thank you all for your encouraging words and hints! Now I'm happy that I didn't throw it into the bin.
best wishes

It was a near disaster but you managed to bring this model back to life again, you have done a great job with the repairs and the model is looking really nice.

Borsos,

Like the others I am glad you resisted the urge to bin this one.  Really nice work despite the troubles.  Looks lovely.

Well saved! The different shades can always be put down to replacement parts fitted due to battle damage!
