Hello friends,
I decided to take part in this memorial groupbuild with a little diorama with the light blue Canel from Wingnut Wings.
Exept the HGW seatbelts and Barracuda seats it will be OOB.

I will start with this beauty in the next days and let you know about the latest progress.

Some people really shouldn’t be allowed to enter..
It’s not fair on the rest of us! ;)

Manni,
With your talents to "set a scene" I suspect we're in for a real treat when this one comes together. Looking forward to following along on this one!
Cheers,
Lance

Excellent choice, Manni! This is one of my favorite Camel schemes.
Cheers,

Oh, the title "A boy's dream" promise some great piece of art here ... Let's see!

Knowing your usual excellence in Dioramas I am really looking forward to seeing this one unfold.

me too!
great show’s about to start!

Thanks a lot, guys,
please don't set your expectations too high. This project is getting a bit simpler. I also think that my skills in painting and detailing models are not as good as you think. Nevertheless, I hope we have a lot of fun with this groupbuild. That's exactly what Des would have liked.
Bye,
Manni
-
Don’t be so critical, Manni. I know we will be blown away again by your diorama!
Best regards
Andreas
-
You choosed a very attractive livery, and I'm sure this will be a great build to follow.
Ciao

This is a lovely choice Manni! I'm also looking forward to the diorama - something you have a real talent for!

Marc

Hello my friends,
I don't want to make excuses here. I simply did not have the strength to complete this project in the given time.
I hope you don't think I'm just going to give up memory of Des, but I will definitely finish this project after the planned timeframe.
At the moment I have cleaned, deburred and prepared all parts for painting.
In the next three weeks you won't hear much from me, because I'm going on holiday with my wife and daughter. I hope to return with a lot of new model Mojo.
Bye,
Manni
-
Have a great holiday Manni. I trust I speak for others here, but when you get back to the bench we will again get to enjoy seeing your amazing models!
Cheers
Alistair

Enjoy your Holiday. I will certainly continue to follow your build when you get back!

I hope that you have a really relaxing holiday Manni - and look forward to seeing another exceptional model completed when you return.
Stephen.

I also wish you great vacations and a good recovery.
All the best!

Hello my friends. As things are getting better I managed to make some progress.

(https://i.ibb.co/M2Fvkp1/20191025-211122.jpg) (https://ibb.co/QbygvnH)
Hopefully I will manage to keep it going. Yesterday I made the complete internal rigging and I will soon close the fuselage.
Bye,
Manni

Great looking work, as usual, Manni.
-
At least I managed to seat the pilot in his chair. Luckily I got me some reading glasses and was shocked how ruff I made the cockpit. But nearly everything will be hidden by this small fellow.

Hello dear friends,
it's been a long time since I've done anything here. I would like to apologize for that. Especially because I didn't continue with Des Memorial Build. Unfortunately I didn't have the strength to build much further, because everything became a bit too much. I was feeling pretty bad and needed to recover. I finally got my diagnosis after a long time. I suffer from a bipolar disorder as well as a modified form of Asperger's autism. I had to deal with that first with myself and my family. Now, thanks to the diagnosis and my great therapist, I have acquired many behaviors (skills) that help me in everyday life and I can get through life very well again.
But now to the important stuff:
The Sopwith Camel has been finished in the meantime. The construction was anything but stress-free. I once crushed the whole interior between clamps, broke all the struts, dropped the model, broke the landing gear, crumbled the decals and cracked the glue seam on the fuselage again, so I had to spackle and repaint the fuselage.
But I told myself, you have to do that for Des.
The kids room has a timeless design and most of the pieces are scratchbuilt. There are sprues on the table with instructions and much more. On the pinboard I put a photo of Des. All planes are 3d printed and have the original schemes.
I think He might like it as it is.I intentionally weathered the model very subtly since Des liked it this way.

Manni, that wonder-full diorama brings a tear to the eye. I think all modelers can really understand this scene, as we've all been there. Beautifully executed and superb modeling all around! Thank you for sharing this with us. ;D
Best regards,
Bob

Manni , made me cry . Very well done on capturing the story !
Glad that you are also doing well Manni :)
Alexis

Welcome back Manni, and my sincere compliments on a truly touching and magnificent Diorama project. As Bob and Alexis say, we've all been there and you've captured that well. I'll add my gratitude that you're back and we're a better place for that!
Stay safe, and well!
Lance

I also have to add my compliment even if others have said it all already!
this is a magnificent diorama, one you have to look over several times to try to capture all the details you put in it...
this diorama is also very emotional in many ways.... you can be proud of yourself!
ciao
edo
p.s. last but not least.... welcome back!

Speechless.
Sandy
P.S. This is high art. Should be awarded the Turner Prize in the UK (rather than Tracy Emin's stupid unmade bed!!!)
-
Thank you all for your very kind words. This means a lot to me and keeps me going on. Thank you wholeheartedly.

I also have to add my compliment even if others have said it all already!
As do I. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.

Oh my.... lost for words a bit...
That must be one of the best piece of story telling I have ever seen in scale modelling. So simple as a story and so rich in telling, all the details... just wow.
all the best and many thanks for sharing.

Manni, I may build biplanes, but you are the real artist! That is sooo great (https://www.modellboard.net/Smileys/Modellboard/meister.gif)
I scrolled multiple times through the pictures and found again and again new details. I guess there are some fishes in the water? ;)
The paints in the drawers, the magnifier lamp .... and the cubes with DES on it :-*
Do you printed the aircrafts yourself or bought some on platforms like shapeways.com? Have seen there a lot of small planes. And the small cockades on the DH.2 :o - hand painted?
This diorama is an apparent continuation of your earlier works. Brilliant!
And I hope, that you and your "great therapist" keep your disorder under control and you will have a great time; here, on your bench and everywhere else.
All the best,
Frank
-
Thank you, gentlemen. Again it feels great to be able to take part in this forum.
@Frank:
Yes, there are fish in the tank (Paracheirodon Axelrodi) and Plants (Valisneria Spiralis and Sagittaria Subulata) :o
The planes are printed by myself and they are all taken from Thingiverse, a free site for 3d models.
The planes and the cocades are painted by hand.
For you I can clearly recommend to get a 3d Resin printer.
Bye, Manni
-
Manni, at first I am really happy that you are back, how great is this!
Secondly I keep my fingers crossed for a good ... well, I think one cannot speak of recovery but a good way to live with all these diagnoses you received. I hope that you‘d find and keep a way to deal with your everyday life as good as possible!
At last chapeau for another masterfully built diorama which is not only a model display but that breathes so much more. What a fantastic work on all the details of this poetic scene.
All the best,
Andreas

Welcome back Manni, and thank you for your amazing diorama, one of the most astonishing and brilliant dioramas I have ever seen!
Des would be so proud that you remembered him in this way. The thought and detail that went into your diorama is world class. By the way, the desk lamp in your diorama piece is almost identical to the model bench lamp that was attached to Des' own model desk! I know this is true because that same lamp is now fixed to my model desk!
I am very happy to hear your health problems are being treated and it's wonderful to see you back on the Forum with us again. We have missed you!
best regards

Thank you all for your warm welcome back. It feels really good to be back here. And thank you for the kind words about the small diorama. It was a lot of fun to build it and use the different modelling techniques from woodcarving to scratch building up to stencils cut by a printer and some parts printed by a 3d printer.
Bye, Manni

Wow, Wow and Wow, Manni! What a great dio with so many layers and so much going on! A real study that shows us the real evolution, spirit, courage and dedication of a scale modeller! This transcends pure modelling and moves into the realm of true art... just so well done!! I can only admire and hope that there is more to come! A Real tribute to Des and his desire to promote our hobby..
Regards,
Marc. (Really great to have you back!)

Manni, I can only apologise for not having seen this before.
Now that I have looked at your work, several times, I am completely lost for words. The sheer skill and artistry which you show here, (and in your abandoned W20), leaves me totally stunned. This is deeply moving, informative, story-telling, and so much else besides. In my opinion this is the best tribute to Des that any of us could offer. This is not modelling - it is high art - you are an artist and supremely skilled craftsman. I agree with Macsporran - it displays skill and attention to detail that some so-called modern artists wholly lack. This should go to a museum or art gallery one day so that many others can enjoy and admire your huge talent.
I do hope that this helped you with your medical problems, and that future projects will also help you to cope better with them.
So inspiring to have you back on the forum - I am excited at the prospect of seeing more of your work.
Stephen.
-
Thank you so much for your kind and warm response, Marc and Stephen.
I is very nice to hear that my little work is so interesting for you guys. Thank you.
I will give my best to deliver more "model stories".
Bye Manni

Thank you so much, Manni, from me:
Thank you for this wonderful diorama that touched me deep inside! And thank you for being back here with us!

Hello, Manni -

Makes me think I should give up my efforts after seeing this (I won't really) ...........!
