Zac asked if I would actually do a build log of the IBG D-9 kit so I figured I would oblige 8) In RAGIII style I will do a Dual Build and include the Old DML Ta152H-1. Both are 1/72nd scale.

Box and basic parts.

This site is turning into "Meet the Fockes.........." ;) ;D But nevertheless I'll be following along :)

More of you latest !

Thank you for indulging me, Rick! I enjoy the comparison builds quite a lot, as well as the new and exciting kits.
-
Good to see that you are putting up a build log Rick, and in God's Own Scale too! I will be following this.
Stephen.

Thanks Nigel, Ed, Zac, and Stephen. I appreciate you looking in.
I have pretty much finished the cockpit assembly and the bulkhead it attaches to. It all goes together well with for Me, a couple of exceptions.
1. Instrument Panel Decals. Thick, Brittle. I couldn't get them to conform, and they broke apart so just painted the IP the best I could. (It really won't be seen anyway!)
2. The PE parts are well designed, especially the seatbelts. Again, this is just Me but especially with some parts I would appreciate a plastic backup like seen in Eduard kits. As an example, I dropped one of the rudder pedals and of course failed to locate the thing. I was fortunate in that I had an old Pe sheet with some Basic German rudder pedals I used for both pedals. Like I said, A plastic backup would be nice
Otherwise, the somewhat complex interior set up seems like it is going to fit....Fingers crossed. The engine assembled easily and again, seems as though it will line up with the bulkhead and openings for exhausts. As the cowl panels will be closed as molded, I am just going to do a basic paint job on the engine.
RAGIII
PS: I had to use Tamiya Xtra thin to get the side console decals to conform!

Is there are instrument panel in there....? ;) :) Like you said, it can't be seen! This is a nice level of detail for 1/72, looking forward to seeing more.
-
Nice start.
I agree about having a plastic alternative (which I often prefer for 3d items like pedals although they're rarely seen in the bowels of a dark cockpit) ::)

So much detail in God's Own Scale! This will be another pair of stunning models.
Stephen.

Thanks Stephen but I am Not 100 percent sure you are correct ::)
RAGIII.
I went further on the build of the IBG kit over the last few days. A word of warning on this kit: Be absolutely PRECISE in all construction and TEST FIT FREQUENTLY!
even a Small misalignment creates problems down the line.
1. I finished painting the engine and gluing the assembly to the firewall/bulkhead. Time to glue the interior and fuselage halves together. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't get the forward fuselage to go together with the cockpit aligned and the engine and exhausts in place. So I had to begin to eliminate some stuff that I thought was fouling the fit of the engine/fuselage.
2. I cut stuff off and managed to get things together. I added the underside wing assembly, filled, and am ready to see if the PE wheel well parts will fit my assembly.
Bottom line here is that the kit is well detailed and designed , but the Modeler has to be precise!!!!

I note that modern kits seem to include a spar of sorts in the construction: is that because it is visible through the cockpit canopy or is it just for strength?
Advantage of scratchbuilding: if a part does not fit you know who to blame.....!
Stephen.

Stephen,
The Spar is not visible through the cockpit. It's purpose in this case is two fold:
1. It sets the angle of Dihedral for the wings.
2. It forms the rear of the wheel well as per the original.
As for that advantage of Scratchbuilding you mentioned, I still Know who is responsible for the issues of fit 8)

Today I added the Wheel Well PE and attached the Upper wing halves. Other than losing a couple of PE parts it all came together well!

The D-9 has been primed with a Testors Grey Primer. All looks good to proceed with further painting:

Nice to see the 'standard' version added to this grouping
I was always a fan of the elegant 'stretched' wings and fuselage, but as I've got older the squat pugnacious lines of the original 190 appeal more and more. Not sure what that says, but I'm sure a psychologist could have some fun with it ::)
Paul

That's a very neat looking build, can't wait to see some paint on it.

That's not as Odd as it sounds...at least to Me 8) This one proved to be a fairly straight forward build so far!

Thanks Nigel! I am going to California for the Christmas Holiday and won't be back until the 30th! So No more work until then.

Build Number (3) is now primed. When I get back I will focus on bringing the DML Ta 152 up to speed!

Great work on those, dear Focke-man :-)
I remember building the Dragon Ta152 - it was a horror of terrible fitting... Good luck!

You were absolutely right about the Ta! It took quite a bit of work to get the basics together. I did manage to modify the engine to make it fit with the engine panels left closed. It's not perfect but it will do! Now all three are primed and have some MRP white Aluminum applied prior to painting. Chipping fluid has been used over the Aluminum.

Thanks Zac! Here is a recap of My thoughts on building the IBG D-9:
1. Study the Directions carefully!
2. Make yourself aware of all of the plastic and PE parts and How they Interact in assembly!
3.Once you have done the above start to Carefully assemble the parts per instructions. BE PRECISE in assembly.
4. TEST FIT FREQUENTLY!! I can't emphasize this enough!
5. When you think you have it all lined up, TEST FIT AGAIN 8)
The kit really is well designed and I am convinced things would have been easier had I known to follow My advice in advance!

I haven't done much work on Models this past week. I did get a New Airbrush, ( H&S evolution 2024), compressor, and quick disconnect fittings 8)
So a couple of days ago I did a little bit of practice work with the New Airbrush. works great but I still shake ::)

Very cool builds. You'd think a good H&S airbrush would come with an anti shake compensator. Geez. I've only got the one eye so I paint my thumb a lot - nope no one eye compensator either.

;) I have begun to apply color to all three. The Two Fw190's have a base of MRP- 066, RLM 76. The Ta has a base of MRP -181 BlauGrun,, a later version of RLM 76. All three have had lighter variations added, although it doesn't show as much in the photos. The D-9 also has White Aluminum on the undersides.

Very cool looking models coming together nicely (The pugnacious 'standard' one is my favourite still) ;)
I'm intrigued by the D9 white grey/silver underside. Was that a case of can't be bothered by the factory? Or something else I'm missing (Looks cool either way)

Thanks. Sorry for the Long Delay in answering. Apparently near the end several factories doing 109s', Fw 190/Ta152, and Me 262 aircraft left certain parts unpainted. The Control surfaces and rear fuselage were usually painted in a version of RLM 76. As for the leading edge on the D9, I am not certain whether that was "Factory" or "Unit" level.

I actually finished the Two Fw190 variants a few weeks ago! I have just been delinquent in posting the results :-[ Just a couple more notes on the IBG and actually the Eduard kit also:
1. The Kits contain two versions each of the same canopies. One is for a "Closed" position, and the other for "opened" position. So pay close attention to which you plan to use.
2. Be careful with a lot of the IBG smaller parts. They are close to scale and break easily! The tail wheel strut is an example!
The D-9 final finish is basically MRP clear coats over the RLM 83/82/76 and white Aluminum paints by MRP. Oils for weathering.
The Eduard kit was RLM 74/75/76 by MRP with Tamiya clear coats used to seal the Oils and Paints.
Zac, I hope this has helped you with your questions about the IBG kit. It is really quite nice and well designed. I would actually be tempted to do another under the right circumstances. I have knowledge of the difficult parts and how things work now which would help!

Well two out of three ain't bad...... ;) Very smart looking builds, more great work on the camo schemes and again, refined weathering and panel lining that looks very effective and realistic, especially in this scale.
-
Lovely work Rick! And yes, I've found the comparison very interesting.
I hope the H won't have to wait too long to join these two.
-
I agree with Nigel: you seem to have really mastered the weathering so that the models look realistic as opposed to overdone.
Stephen.
