My entry to the GB.
I have started with the engine cowling. I always wondered if the kit part can be thinned down to fit Taurus Clerget. Well, after some work with DSPIAE grinder and sandpaper and testing with my old Clerget on the stand, it seems it cannot, yet not much is missing. So I still have hope - I will build a new Clerget with slight mod to set the cylinders closer to the axis, and then it should fit in.

I'm sorry to see your original engine plan is a no-go, Prze, but I have no doubt you'll work out a terrific solution. A great choice of kit and subject!
-
Excellent choice for the GB, looking forward to seeing you do this one.
That's the problem with "scale" engines - they won't fit inside model cowlings unless they have been specifically downscaled for a kit. Best of luck with the new engine build.....
-
Thanks, Zac and Nigel.
And no worries, mates. That old Clerget was never meant to get to this model, I just used it for testing. And now I know, what to do, so that the freshly ordered one fits inside.
-
Lovely choice of model Prze, shame about the cowl thinning, but at least as you say you now have a plan for the engine and getting it to fit :D
Paul
-
Hammer those rocker arms flat, will fit fine.
I want to do Collishaws "Black Maria: in 1/48 maybe for this GB......
-
I hope I will not need to use a hammer... ;D
The new engine has arrived. I trimmed a bit the crankcase so that the cylinders sit closer to the axis. And it seems to work. There is still some margin to accomodate the valve rockers.
I hope Łukasz will forgive me that cheating on the diameter of his masterpiece Clerget...

Looks like you did it - keep that paint thin......!
-
Looks like you did it - keep that paint thin......!
;D ;D ;D sure I will. There is indeed some gap around...
-
The work on Clerget continues. It is actually my third take on it. And my awe for the magic that Łukasz used to produce it is not diminishing...
I am mostly using the wet toothpick tip to transport the tiny bits which fit like Lego bricks. And to secure them I use the clear gloss lacquer.
The part count stands at 120 now but it is not the end.

Colours, colours!
And lots of teeny tiny parts! Watch out for the carpet monster staring over your shoulder........ :D
-
That will look stunning Prz.
-
Thanks!
Carpet monster devoured just one bit, a spark plug. Luckily Łukasz provides some spares of small parts as a sacrifice, so I even did not bother looking for it.
Well, the assembly is now well progressing, another 80+ elements added. Now only the electric wires and valve push rods need to be attached. And it all still fits inside the cowling!

Looking good, and it fits! Nice work so far.
-
That?s a sharp looking engine Prze. I can see how thin those cooling fins are on each cylinder. It must be very delicate to handle. Pleased to see that it fits in the cowling.
-
Thanks for watching.
Yes, the cooling fins ARE delicate. I remember my first attempt to these engines, when cutting one cylinder from the casting block I damaged them while holding it in my fingers. Since then I do not touch them at all, except for a moment they are glued to the crankcase - I hold them really delicately then.
And in the meantime electricity connected and the push rods under way. The latter ones are time consuming because the length of each one has to be adjusted to the position of the valve rocker.

The engine looks gorgeous, beautiful work! I don't envy you having to work with such delicate parts but you're doing a terrific job.
-
That is beautiful, lovely work.
-
Wow!
-
Thank you!
The engine is now fully complete with the dirt, still fitting the cowling even after it was painted alu inside ;)

Good news that the painted engine fits! It looks great.
Your attention to detail is admirable. My remaining life is too short to bother with adding turnbuckles in places that will never be seen....... ;) :)

But, but, but, all those tbs will be seen, either through cockpit opening or through the tail skid opening. ;)

Beautiful job on the engine , interior is looking just as lovely so far .

Funny you mention the control lines exactly at the moment I was struggling with the rudder bar ones 😁

Nice to catch up on your progress here Prze. Excellent job on the rigging and control lines in the cockpit. I wondered myself which side of the frame to lead those lines from the trim-wheel.
Cheers,
Gary

Very nice indeed! This will be my build guide for when I get round to doing this one....

Actually, neither fast, nor high level. See, for instance, the speed and quality of Mike's builds.
-

Alexis
Funny. ;) But that would take away lots of pleasure if I subcontracted modeling to Minions.
-
Beautiful work Prze. You have picked out all the details in that complicated interior so well. Looking forward to seeing the next post.
-
Absolutely stunning work so far, Przemo! The engine detail is next level! This is a great build to follow... Regards, Marc
-
I'm in awe. I don't know how you do such detailed work to such perfection! / Ian
-
Thank you very much, Tim, Marc and Ian.
Finally, some progress to show. Rigging stations attached, painting started with undersides including shading. For the first time I have not used my faithful Pactra Mid Stone for the linen - this time I followed WNW proposal of Tamiya range colour. And I must say it is quite convincing.

Looking great so far Prze.
Personally I'd put the cockpit on a display stand all by itself; shame that once it's been buttoned up most will never get to see the lovely workmanship that's gone on 8)
Linen colour looks good and it's nice to have a variety of colours on models
Paul
-
Now IMO that is properly weathered to represent linen and rib tapes. Beautifully done! Inspirational work as always.

Slowly but steadily... Main airbrushing complete, shading almost done, decalling underway.

I've been on a paint matching kick for some WWII projects so it's neat to see different interpretations - I've often read PC10 described as chocolate, but I think this is the first model representation I've seen. Lovely work!

This is coming on beautifully, lovely work on that fabric.

Lovely! Any issues with assembling all the wings....?
Indeed, there was a small problem, the cabane struts were not properly aligned and the top wing was lying askew in the plan. I trimmed one of them, the pin and the head and then everything fit.
And after a busy Sunday the Tripe is all rigged except for ailerons. The wheels, the engine and the windscreen will complete the job, hopefully tonight.

Ian, I am not sure what kind of information are you referring to. If modelling techniques - I have learned the majority of those here and at two predecessor not-any-more-existing modeling forums dedicated to WW1 aircraft models. If to the aircraft details - depends - I have quite a library of Windsocks and other books, and as for this Tripe - whe usual detail-rich Wingnut Wings instruction book gives you more than is needed.

Oh, I see. Well, this is my vice - I simply do not feel like modeling an aircraft not having at least one photo to confirm its existence. ;) Actually, the more photos, the better ;) Besides, I especially like the unusual markings - though this Tripe here is not a good example ;) But then, it was the idea of this GB - to depict the aircraft of the well-known aces.
Anyway, thank you for your kind words, I am glad my models are liked by the fellow modellers.

Sure, no secrets :) It is a blackish fishing line 0.12mm diameter, painted in steel colour. Just like I showed in the tutorial available in the Rigging for Everyone Section.
