I agree more than 100 percent!

Yes! Count me in for several. Glad I binned that Special Hobby kit!
-
I will probably get one but I am a little bit disappointed by that choice.
-
Always happy to see more WW1 planes be announced! :)
CSM will deliver a quality product.
However maybe its my lack of knowlegde... But I dont see that much difference in appearance compared to the other Nieuports?
Looks like a different cowling?

At last, perhaps I can now stop wrestling with my A Model kit!

11/16 were smaller than 17/23. Knowing CSM I am sure they will take it into account. ;) But they look similar and that is the reason I am not overjoyed with this release.
-
I'll support anything CSM do, but having just recently built two Special Hobby Bebes, I would wait quite a bit longer for this release.
There must be a Bristol Scout D in the works and I'd far prefer the promised Hanriot Scouts. I do hope CSM haven't been put off by the Lukgraph releases - seeing various builds of these kits I'm not of a mind to spend 200GBP on fairly rough resin kits, if I could buy three superb CSM Hanriots for the same price.

As I always say, “You can never have too many Nieuports”. And here I am working on a Special Hobby Nieuport 11 as I type this.

I hope so, too. Given that Lukgraph kits are more expensive and are made from a completely different media, I would hope that this is not an issue.

Also the fuselage is different, the 11/16 had a slab-sided fuselage with "cheeks" behind the cowl rather than the rounded front section of the 17/21.
Lots of cool colour schemes for the 11/16, I have only built one CSM 17 so am really looking forward to this one.
-
Hi all,
The Nieuport 16 was an improved Nieuport 11 developed in 1916, with a strengthened airframe and powered by a more powerful 110 hp (82 kW) Le Rhône 9J rotary engine.
Visible differences included a headrest for the pilot and a larger aperture in front of the "horseshoe" cowling.
The Nieuport 16 was an interim type pending the delivery of the slightly larger Nieuport 17 C.1, which was designed parrallel with the 16 and which remedied the 16's limitations, as well as improving performance.
So not much difference between the 11 and the 16 it seems,
Mike
-
As has been said, one can never have too many Nieuports. :) However, as long as everyone else gets to complain, I'll say I sure wish someone would give us one in 1/72nd. The
Toko/Eastern Express kits are horrid.
I know! I know! I'll build 2-3 of the Toko/EE kits, make the corrections, etc. and someone will release a new, state-of-the-art kit. ;)
I'm tickled pink for the 1/32nd crowd though, I really am.
Warren
-
Some of you WWI List veterans may remember the 1:48 Bristol Fighter that Shane Weier spent about a year laboriously scratchbuilding, only to have Blue Max or somebody release an injection-molded version right after he finished it. Now I know how he felt... although my Amodel N.16 is only about a third scratched (so far)!
But of course I've had a lot of fun, and learned a tremendous amount along the way, so I can't complain.

I’m with you Warren. I’d really appreciate a new tool 1/72 Nieuport 11.
-
I am looking forward to this!
-
Can’t wait to see what the markings choices will be, especially given the quality of CSM decals. Might be useful on those Amodel/Special Hobby kits insulating the loft!
-
Hoo boy, this is great news! Given the quality of CSM's recent output I expect these to do rather well.

We deserve it! (said with smug look on face). ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

... I am a little bit disappointed by that choice.
I'm proud to say that I've learned to really respect your views and talent, Prez ...
However ... ;)
I'm delighted by this CSM choice, and looking forward to these kits as much as I am the Hanriots!!
Here's a potential scheme that would be a winner, I think:

Hi all,
Latest from CSM,
Mike
----------------------------
We are pleased to share the final overall look of our upcoming 𝐍𝐢𝐞𝐮𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝟏𝟏 𝐢𝐧 𝟏/𝟑𝟐 scale model kit.
The 3D design phase is complete, and we are now starting the mold development process.
Here are some key details about the kit:
The kit will include at least 4 different Lewis machine gun mounts, including the rare Alkan synchronizer mount.
Early serial numbers of the Nieuport 11 had long panels covering the pilot's cockpit, while later serials (and Nieuport 16) had shorter panels.
Early Version: Long panels for early serial numbers
Late Version: Short panels for later serial numbers
Each version includes different hatch configurations. We've included the most distinctive ones, with some rare versions available as 3D-printed accessories.
We're focused on delivering high quality and accuracy with our Nieuport line.

Great news. A very nice looking kit. The rib tapes look a little heavy to me but they can be easily toned down. Preordered both of them!

The description of early and late are identical, including engines. What's the difference between the kits? Decals?

Gene K
Decals, and from the CSM site:
The Nieuport 11 Late Version represents the evolution of Allied fighter aircraft in response to the demands of combat during World War I. Featuring shortened cockpit side panels, this variant included larger hatches, enhancing maintenance access while maintaining the aircraft’s streamlined design.
The Nieuport 11 Early Version is a pivotal aircraft in World War I history, introduced in early 1916 to address the challenges posed by the German Fokker Eindecker series during the Fokker Scourge. This model features long cockpit side panels, a distinctive feature of this machine.
Other than decals, it looks like both versions share the same plastic. I've pre-ordered both for the extra decals and 3D engine (also free shipping).
-
Thanks much Juan! Obviously I need to go back to the CSM site! :-[
Looks like I'll get the early and then the 16 when it's offered.

Ordered my kits just yesterday. Really looking forward to seeing these.

About the ribs, for some of you they might looks thick or heavy, but you need to know, there were 2 versions of ribs on the top and lower wings.
The central ribs, being thicker, contributed to maintaining the wing’s aerodynamic shape, particularly in high-stress areas. By reinforcing these ribs, the Nieuport 11 maintained its aerodynamic efficiency, which was critical for its agility and performance in combat.
If you want, I can share some photos about that

Thanks Edgar, I had not seen that. I was looking at the close up photo of the kit and had not noticed that only the 3 ribs either side of the centre section on the top wing and the two either side of the fuselage on the bottom wing are thicker than the rest of the rib tapes. That is really excellent research by you and the team, you can see the difference in (for example) the close up of Ruffo di Calabria's Nieuport 11. Something I had not noticed before.......
I'm even more glad I pre-ordered both :)
BTW I see there is space allocated to you on the floor plan for Scale ModelWorld. Are you going to be there or have you not yet decided?
-
Both kits and some new figures preordered. I’d be very happy to hear which color schemes are included in the early and the late version. Judging from the drawings on CSM’s site (placeholders for the box art?) I think the early Nieuport contains my most favored color scheme ever for the Nieuport :)

Hi Andreas,
CSM say first the two boxes are classical French markings. Italian box will be offered later on.
They'll release shots of the decals shortly,

I'll be bagging both when they hit Hannants!

It’s interesting that to pre-order from CSM, including all the freebies and postage, costs less with the current exchange rates than the expected price of the basic model from Hannants!
Just a thought,
David
-
In my experience, prices from ordering directly from CSM are a fair bit lower than the distributors of their brand (this is mostly based on the armoured cars)… plus free postage if over 100 Euro order. For those of us in far flung places like Australia it’s a good deal!

To be honest, that's one main reason I never bought one of their 1/32 Nie. 17's, the decal options were, for me, very bland. There isn't much out there in terms of 1/32nd French aftermarket decals.

First, many thanks to Mike Norris for publishing the boxart, the decal versions and the presentation in general.
Well, .... I pre-ordered one of the "early" kits before the decal versions were announced.
What can I say - I'm a bit disappointed with the versions included in the kit.
In fact only # N.552 which comes close to my interest.
There would be so many more colorful and interesting French decal schemes for the early Nieuport 11.
Maybe I should hold off on pre-ordering in the future until the decal variants are announced.
At least with the Ni11 "Late" box and the Ni16 I will wait and see.
Now, I hope for some nice and colorful variants of the Italians as a separate Nieuport 11 kit-box or separate decals.

My initial thoughts too. I was hoping for de Turenne's shield (but maybe that's a later N.11/16) which I wanted to model on my Special Hobby kit - but chickened out of producing the shield myself, or Navarre's stripy red/white/blue. Fingers crossed they'll be in a future boxing.

I like the schemes chosen for this initial release, but I was hoping for an Escadrille 12 option with the nifty pennant on the fuselage. I might plan to bulid mine as the Lafayette Escadrille machine with the light blue fuselage flown by Sgt. Viktor Chapman, the first American pursuit pilot to fall to German guns in September 1916.

Hello Edgar,
thank you for your reply, or rather, thank you for your reaction to my "nagging".
No, we don't need to switch from the "Early" to the "Late" box, we'll leave it as it is.
I would just have liked a, hm .... let's put it this way, .... a slightly more colorful decal selection.
But OK, it is what it is.
The Nieuport 11 N.552 scheme in the box is a good alternative for me and I will of course respect your reasons for choosing these variants.

I will have to do the N103 bird. It "roughly" fits My "Storks" collection. For Me as I tend to build Squadron collections, Lafayette and Storks would be My preferred markings. Oddly, although one would think there would be an abundance of After Market decals for those squadrons, they are really rare. Even the Nieuport 17's of Guynemer and others have not been done.

There are So Many that could be modelled and just the few LaFayette birds Mike Posted. One thing I am wondering. Guynemer, Dorme, and others had odd windscreens not available in any kit. With CSM entering the aftermarket business perhaps they could do the Windscreens to get us closer 8)

Christmas is approaching and hopefully modeling time increases ?between the years?; besides of this I received Jon Guttman?s book ?Aerial Chevaliers? on N./SPA. 15 escadrille, and my appetite for Nieuports increased even more. So I am curious if there are any news regarding shipping of the preordered Nieuport 11 kits from CSM and all the wonderful figures and additions they offer?

Heh, Andreas, you can always ask me)
If all goes well we will sending the pre-ordered kits this Thursday or Friday

So all doubts that had appeared since the end of my childhood regarding my parents? Christmas stories are gone: there IS a Santa Claus out there ! ;D

Apparently he (Santa) really does exist - and sometimes he comes in a Nieuport instead of Rudolph and the reindeer sleigh 8)

Santa appears to exist in the form of Polish Post - I just got my shipping notification! Really looking forward to getting these (I ordered both).

I pre-ordered in October, but guess I didn't make the pre-Christmas cut. When's the next batch going out, Edgar?
Thanks.
Gene K
-
Me too. I think I preordered as early as it was possible in October. But I haven?t got a shipping notice neither yet.

All the pre-orders were sent a week ago, that is last Friday
so some of the kits were delivered

thanks for the update Edgar - I'm so excited to get this one, once it gets here, it goes to the front of the build queue ;D

My package has just been delivered thanks Edgar!
Unfortunately I have to go to an appointment, so won?t be able to open it until later???must be patient!

Hi David
do let us know, what you think)
-
Having rushed home to open the box, my first impression Edgar is WOW! It is possible to get an idea of the quality from the photographs on your website, but these do not compare to seeing the kit in real life.
The detail and finesse of the moulding is superb. I like the look of some design features, such as making the cabana struts integral with the side frames. The overall content is incredible value for money, when you look at what other manufacturers are charging for their new models, or what is being asked for WNW on eBay.
If anybody is still hesitating about ordering this kit, then I say hesitate no more!
I am even more excited now about the prospect of your ?Starstrutter?.

That does not make waiting easier, David ;)

I just received my package and I rushed to review its contents (Nieuport Early and Late). It's business as usual with CSM: superb! Congratulations Edgar!
I really hoped that CSM would then consider a series of SPAD VII and XIII of this quality (for me the dream would be a Breguet XIV but does CSM have the possibility to produce big two-seaters?)

mine arrived yesterday december 30th in mint condition

SPAD VII is in our plans yes, Voisin is my dream, but Breguet XIV is kinda on the big side for us for now

No kidding. And morane received BOTh the early and late! Good for him ... [grumble]
Now to suffer the wait for the Starstrutter and SPAD ... not to mention the Nieuport 16. :D

Isn t life waiting ? ;D
But even the shelves so full that I won t be able to build all that in my lifetime, waiting for something great and new released is and hopefully stays exciting like being still a child. :D
Four days now on its way . . . come on, lazy postmen . . .

My two N.11's are in New York today! Soon they will be in the state of their namesake- the Copper State... Arizona- and when they do arrive I am going to shout it down the block.
-
I got an Email saying mine is on the way. The fact that it is on the way is entirely Edgars Doing. As usual I screwed up on My attempt at the Pre-order! Edgar came through as always and fixed things on his end. Thank You Edgar, you are Greatly appreciated!

PS: A SPAD VII , Dang, So many to do/replace 8)
-
My boys have got me this as one of my Christmas presents - they ordered it way before then but it sadly did not arrive for the day unfortunately - it finally arrived a couple of days ago. But, it was certainly worth the wait and as it was a pre-order you get an additional marking option plus a really art work print (box cover art) which you can frame.
Regards
Dave

and an engine as well, not only extra decal)

SPAD VII is in our plans yes, Voisin is my dream, but Breguet XIV is kinda on the big side for us for now
I keep my Fingers crossed and I am sure that you will sell tons and tons of SPADs and I will be among the buyers, but I would like to share your dream of Voisins.
-
Yeah, but when the last Spad was released I did not really notice a lot of builds....
-
Hi Edgar
Probably because this SPAD is in no way comparable in quality to CSM products and it requires significant improvement work.
Concerning the Voisin, what reasons prevent you from making your dream come true? ;)
-
Just received my two Nieuports today, and the overall package is superb. I saw the plastic in the flesh at Telford so I know it is very high quality, but the range of options, the quality of the instructions and the attention to detail in the package is superb, easily the equal of Wingnuts. Fantastic value as well.
Also, Marc Chassard (a well-renowned Nieuport expert) provides the colour notes and some additional photos. That is a great touch as well.
Bravo Edgar and everyone at CSM!!

Hi Edgar

Concerning the Voisin, what reasons prevent you from making your dream come true? ;)
The wingspan is a major challenge?it's quite significant, and I'm concerned the wings might sag, wings are not rather thin.... Another issue is the tailboom; it could be heavy, which raises the risk that the model won't stay on its four wheels. These structural concerns are what hold me back for now.
-
Edgar,
For a 1/32 Voisin or other large wingspan pusher aircraft, the wings could be molded in top and bottom halves so they would be hollow. This is it how Roden made their 1/48 Fokker D.VII wings. For 1/32nd scale, there would be space to attach tempered steel (music wire) spars. As there is no area in a Voisin fuselage in which to conceal a nose weight, the front of the fuselage would need to be a white metal casting.
I hope that you will in the future consider producing 1/48th scale kits again.

Regarding the SPAD, I think morane hit the nail. The SPAD is generally a difficult kit to build, I am afraid.
I see also all your points on the Voisin. But I built WNW?s Fe 2b some years ago. Its wingspan should be almost en par with a Voisin. The wings do not show any signs of sagging. The same on the tailboom question: no deformation after years. I praise injection molded plastic :)
Adding some strips of lead into the bottom of the nacelle and adding weight to the engine would be a possible solution for the tail-sitting issue. Maybe you could do a later Voisin with in-line engines that would cover more lead weight than the radials of the III/V? Or filling the tank with weight? All given as an advise in the instructions for each individual modeler.
I am neither a material specialist nor have I any experiences with injection molding, but I would be happy to support your dream to release a Voisin ? it is also mine :)

Sorry to say, but you can not do things with many other aeroplanes like with D.VII, don`t forget how thick the plywood wing was on D.VII. And we do not do white metal, that is not within our plastic model kits policy

Thank you, Andreas! However, there are some notable differences between the two aeroplanes.
Wings
The FE 2b has a three-section wing design, meaning it needs to be built in three parts?similar to how you approached your FE 2b model from WNW. In contrast, the Voisin's wings consist of two halves joined at the center. This central join could create a weak point, potentially compromising the structure's stability. I believe this isn't an issue with the FE 2b due to its dihedral angle.
Tailbooms
The FE 2b tailbooms are comparable to those on the Caudron. These booms aren't simply suspended in mid-air; they provide an additional stability point, reinforced through the tailskid. On the other hand, the Voisin's tail is entirely unsupported, essentially "hanging" in the air. This means the tail needs to be as lightweight as possible to ensure the aeroplane can rest stably on its four wheels. Additionally, the Voisin's hollow fuselage compensates by distributing weight toward the nose.
I'm not saying these challenges can't be addressed, but they certainly add complexity to the process.

I think a CSM SPAD would undoubtedly sell in SPADES. But the Voisins ... well ... .

Late to this ;Dparty- oh my will be getting. Late and early. Edgar congrats on another acclaimed kit!
Regarding SPAD. The SPAD VII would be most welcome and would sell a ton. The previous releases are of their era.
Building a CSM state or the art injection kit would delight modellers and more will be seen on show ( with even more in the stash). The new 3D company will probably see an opportunity here but hopefully CSM can give us an injection kit in the not too distant future :D
-
Hooray, I got my parcel.
I am blown away, these kits look beyond any superlatives. The research that has been invested in these kits, including such details like inspection hatches or machine gun mounts, is fantastic and is clearly visible in the instructions that also get better and better with every CSM release.
Oh my, shall I really put my Albatros D. I aside to start one of these right now? I had sworn not to start too many projects at the same time again. . .
-
Andreas, I really hesitated to start the Nieuport project, and the main reason was how well you built your last Nie11 on this forum, it was an excellent project that you finished how many years ago? But I think we the latest Nieuport XI we pushed the quality a bit forward)
-
Morane refers to the difficulty of the Roden builds. I would include Hobbycraft. In my experience with the SPAD everything is fine until you try to put the top wing on. Better kit engineering would help. Either very positive strong locators for the cabanes plus good anchoring for the interplane struts. Another approach would be molded-in cabanes similar to the Hasegawa P-12 or Monogram F3F

Yes, Proper engineering will help. The Cabanes are indeed the key and as you stated interplane strut location points. Having built three Hobbycraft XIII's, One Roden XIII, and Three Roden VII's i can say the SPAD is a tricky build. To Me the most challenging thing is rigging those Double wrapped wires and the single wire that travel through the H Strut!
I am convinced that a Proper SPAD would Outsell a Starstrutter by Legions! JMHO,

I also received my Early-Nieuport yesterday.
A really finely made kit - great quality.
I was delighted with the Storch decal variant - great, I've been waiting a long time for that.
The 3D printed engine is also a great thing, excellent for a diorama on which the engine is repaired.
The special print is also a nice idea - put a nice frame on it and hang it on the wall above the model building workbench.
All in all - after the Bristol Scout and the Caudron, this is another excellent model from Copper State.
I'm looking forward to the Ni 16.
Although - I am more looking forward to bright and colorful Italian decal variations or, even better, a complete kit for the Ni 11.
Excellent job, Edgar. Thanks for that!

I also received the Nieuports in the post today. What joy when I saw the kits. The quality of the plastic sprues has improved again, razor-sharp trailing edges of the wings, thin cowling and fuselage spine, thin sanding as with so many other kits is not necessary. The stitching on the fuselage is also very fine and sharp.
And then there is the printed Le Rhone engine, a jewel!
The choice and printing of the decals is excellent, as is the box art.
I'm so excited that I want to put the current projects to one side and build a Nieuport XI instead.
As others have said, thanks Edgar !
Highest regards

Most likely Fall 2025
May I ask Edgar if and when the Italian markings are planned?
Will this be in conjunction with a complete kit, or only as separately available decals?
