Today I started experimenting with oil paints for weathering. Many thanks to George Taylor for the tip. This is my first try with this method but it looks like I will enjoy it. ;)

So far I have not found a way to post photos directly from Flickr, hope the link will do the job.

Cheers

Ok, I seem to have finally succeeded to find a way to post photos properly. ;) So here the photos once again directly:

Here the upper wing with oils applied:

And here the same story on the fuselage:

I also applied wash to the propeller hub and could not resist a dry fit on the nose:

Thank you, Andonio. ;)

Some more work done with oils today, I tried to give the wooden and metal panels a slighty more greenish tone while keeping the canvas parts more greyish. Hope these photos show the story. The oil paint is still wet, so the contrast should be reduced once the paint has cured. I also used drybrush to emphasize some parts like stitching and hatches.

I also continued with some details like drybrush on the exhausts, brass on the Foster mount and on the Aldis sight.

I was not satisfied with the wood on the struts, so I reworked them, this time with a mix of yellow and golden ochre. Afterwards I gave the struts a coat of Drooling Bulldog Ochre wood stain. The black details have been painted with very dark grey oil paint.

As mentioned before, I was not very happy about the base, so I started reworking it.

Many thanks for your nice comments, Bud, Ed, Stephen and Rick. ;)

I continued slowly on the fuselage today, Vickers and Aldis are in place and I also added the first rigging in places, which would be hard to handle afterwards.

Hard to handle afterwards?  I wouldn't be able to handle it at this stage!  Awesome!

It is a WingNuts MiniWing kit? Same detail and quality taking 1/8th of the space when finished!

Building a WW1 biplane in 1/144 and make it looking good, is one thing. But doing it scratch another. Fantastic work and a lot input for us.
A model thrives on its overall impression and not on that every little disagreement over the original is hyped up as a disaster
