Title: Albatros D.V 1/32 WnW
Post by: Jacek on August 03, 2013, 02:07:02 AM
Welcome. Time to start my first WnW. I got it as a present, let it not be in stock ;)
I'm going to do it in this paint scheme.

(http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g436/malutki352/Albatros%20D%20V/al1.jpg) (http://s1101.photobucket.com/user/malutki352/media/Albatros%20D%20V/al1.jpg.html)

At the beginning of masking

Now preshading color Humbrol 113 and the base color of Humbrol 103, and drying.

Time to think how to make imitations of plywood ?
I took to be the engine, at the beginning of the valve springs.

I started doing the spark plugs I'm not sure whether this can be.

I changed the wires, I did not like, were too thin

I stressed the wooden structural elements, with paint Humbrol 62

Jacek, lovely work but one thing! Albatros didn't have the cocking handles on the maxims. See Bo's build he has some excellent ref there as to how the cocking mechanism should look. Snipping off the long handle and making a short straight length with a knob on basically.

I love what you are doing otherwise.

Very nice start to WNW adventure. You are on the way to build a lovely Albatros model. I especially admire your work on the engine. Lukasz Laskowski from Taurus will be unhappy, if everybody scratch builds the elements which he offers in his resin detailing sets ;)

For this championship, for me, still a long way  :'(

Hi Jacek;

It seems as though you haven't painted the rear cockpit bulkhead that the seat fits in to, it should be painted 'Clear Doped Linen' in colour, because it is visible when the cockpit is closed, I hope this helps.

Cheers

It would be great to see it outside the model... maybe for an overhaul?! In a small diorama!?

Just pls don't bury it in the fuselage.

Jacek,
Looking really good so far. Your pre-shading will pleasantly surprise you if you apply very light coats of the final finish over top, and stop short of full coverage. Very nice work so far on one, if not my absolute number one favorite subject. Looking forward to following your progress.

I agree Jacek, another light coat (or two) will do wonders, just take it a very light bit at a time. I use a dark grey normally, spray it exactly as you have, and the light undersides normally need at least two shots, sometimes three of the light blue or CDL.

Jacek, keep in mind the wood grain on the panels will always be in the same direction on the D.V -- parallel to the airflow. This is because the plywood was three ply and much easier to bend in one direction hen the other.

Jacek, if you want to have green mottling on the fuselage, you could dab it with
a sponge soaked in the proper green paint.  Wingnuts website has a tutorial for that exact
thing in the hints and tips section of the instuctions for the Albatros D.V.
  Hope that helps. :)

Toothbrush flick method:

1) Dip old toothbrush in paint
2) move thumb backwards across toothbrush bristles, spraying paint randomly

Obviously, test on scrap to master technique

You simply must experiment as there are many variables including the paint's viscosity, the stiffness of the bristles as well as the effect you are trying to achieve. This technique is often used to simulate mud spatters and so forth...

1.-Technique Bo
2.-My modification of technique Bo
3.-Sponge

The most suitable to me technique Bo.  In my modification is too much of microscopic dots.
Sponge is very difficult to maintain equal emphasis !

BTW, very nice wings shading, Jacek!

Nice experimentation..

Although I think it was sponged on the aircraft, so the real thing looks a bit blotchy. It's a very difficult finish to achieve and not look a mess!

I'm sure the neater flicking method will look best on the model..

Good luck!

very nice wings shading, Jacek!

I am not happy with the shading on the wings  :-\
I painted gently brighten color. I think right now it looks a little better.

Very very promising. Fine effect, Jacek!
But, again, forgive my being a continuous nuisance... My feeling of this camouflage is a bit different. Looking at the photo from the WNW website (hints and tips section) I tend to see a more pronounced mottle effect. I would add some more green specks.

more motley. However if you are happy with your efforts, that is what counts.  I tend
to think you have it pretty well done.  Good work, my friend!

Fact that a little too thick, but also are based too tightly on the engine.

After completing dozen or so pieces turnbuckles, I found them to be too thick  :( I started making new  :D

A. the old version,   tubes 0.9 and 0.6mm
B. the new version, tubes 0.8 and 0.5 mm

(http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g436/malutki352/Albatros%20D%20V/DSCF0015-2.jpg) (http://s1101.photobucket.com/user/malutki352/media/Albatros%20D%20V/DSCF0015-2.jpg.html)

I installed the handles in the upper wing:

(http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g436/malutki352/Albatros%20D%20V/DSCF0021.jpg) (http://s1101.photobucket.com/user/malutki352/media/Albatros%20D%20V/DSCF0021.jpg.html)

I slowly assembles the pieces together:

(http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g436/malutki352/Albatros%20D%20V/DSCF0019-1.jpg) (http://s1101.photobucket.com/user/malutki352/media/Albatros%20D%20V/DSCF0019-1.jpg.html)

I am very pleased decal responds well to softeners  ;D
