Is it me or...?
« on: April 22, 2018, 07:23:13 PM »
Is the spinner of the WnW Albatros D. V a wee bit pointy?  As I start work on my D.V, I decided to look at some other builds of the WnW kit.  When I got to the completed part of the photos I was struck by the WnW spinner.

Am I the only one?

I'm not overly worried.  I can back-fill the kit part, broaden the front with styrene sheet strips then assault it with file and paper once I get the fuselage all closed up.

Boggie's right.  I've got two of those corrected spinners in the stash.
Cheers,

Thanks for the replies!

Yes, I thought the Roden spinner looked closer to right.

I have one for my current build. Just remember the corrected spinner is for the Axial prop . I think the cut outs for the blade are type specific?

PS: On my two previous DV/DVa builds I just sanded the heck out of the WNW spinner. They look better but not perfect!

I think they modeled the kit spinner from a Albatros in NZ.  I'm not sure the provenance of the Albatros, but it does have that same ugly spinner.

The kit spinner is not only too pointy but too narrow.  Looking at period photos, there is just enough space between the perimeter of the spinner and the metal cowl plates for a whiff of air to get through.  It might mean thinning the fuselage panels immediately behind the spinner.

But it's a focal point of every aircraft.  So, it has to be right.
