Triplane Master Ed Boll has asked that I post his latest DR1. I am sure he will fill in the details.

The third Amigo agrees completely on all counts!  You are the Master with another National winner on display here!
Cheers,
Bud

Not my aircraft, but nevertheless  a very finely built model. Great work all around!

Thank you all, Rick, Bud, Jaun, Bob and Prze for your kind comments.

A new build, it was built to replace the same aircraft in my 5 Dr-I/PLM Pilot Collection at the San Diego Aero Space Museum that was damaged when the cases were moved.  I did the original in 1984 and took 1st at the IPMS NATS in Atlanta.  This one is already in the case down there and will not appear at the NAts.  It is however built to exactly the same standard as all the others (all were all winners in the respective years of build and later another 1st as a collection),  Complete scratch built interior, Corrected ailerons, wing stacking pads and Cowl, detailed engine., engine turned alum firewall, turnbuckles built as the others ( long before Gaspatch...) photo-etch Spandau cooling jackets . The sharp-eyed will note that the stripes are not all the same, this is per the actual pictures by matching the stripes to their particular rib locations..  It did give me a chance to correct the tail stripes as at that time it was conjecture as to exactly what they were and I originally followed Dan-San-Abbotts iteration of diagonals.  Since then pictures have risen showing the Jasta 6 stripes as it now appears .  I do have some spare parts so in time I'll fix & refinish the old one, but in a different PLM pilot's markings.

Will follow up when I get pics of the new display.

this Udet DrI is very cool and a masterwork - fantastic! You mention doing an "engine turned aluminum firewall" - do you have any pics of that and how you accomplished it?

Thank you, Stephen, Jeron, Lance and Petrov, most appreciated.

For the engine turning , I use an electric eraser with an "ink" type refill,  use an exacto blade to reduce  the "head" to a more scale size, then burnish just like originally ( and still done on restorations- mainly classic cars) in a somewhat row pattern,  Will take some pictures and impose upon Rick to post.

Thank you for posting - that is very interesting - I did not even know the engine firewall had the turning done to it. Will attempt to replicate on my next DrI or DVIII build
