I'd love to see something Austro-Hungarian such as maybe a Hansa-Brandenburg DI "Starstrutter" or Aviatik DI "Berg", Phonix DI, etc.  Heck, I'd be excited for something that's not British or German.  Give us a Nieuport or SPAD or Hanriot or Curtiss Jenny or Ansaldo SVA.5.

Hanriot has lots of appeal. Not produced before in 1/32. Colourful. Mount of great Belgian and Italian pilots. Although a French aircraft, never used by France. More produced under licence by Macchi (over 900)  than by the parent firm.

Windsock has a new datafile on the Aviatik 'Berg" D.I at war, so that would be my guess (and hope!).

They did the Taube as well, both the kit and the datafile. So maybe not this surprise for februari, but in a year or two?

i've not been following WNW very long, but looking at their release history, they *do* seem to have pivoted a bit toward popular aircraft.

Camel plus recent reboxings of Albatros and D.VII suggest this. Also, the Taube and Dolphin tended to do well in the 'wish list' polls i've seen. old toolings like the SPAD XIII and Nieuport 17 look to me like they're possibly in play thanks to the precedent set by the Camel.

Even though Roden have apparently said they'll not release any new WWI kits in 1/32, i'd be surprised (but not completely shocked) if they released something Roden's still producing, especially without having kitted so many important types.  surprised, but not completely shocked. i expect it would be wildly popular. i also expect that has occurred to the boys at WNW...

still betting DH.4 though. because i've decided that's what i DO.

I would also consider the DH4 as most of the parts are present in the DH9 and 9a offerings. My hope is for the BE2e, though I think it will either be the Cl.II or the Dr.I.

I'd be excited about any flavor of BE2. If a BE2 happens I hope it means the whole set is on the way, either in one boxing or many.

The careful observer will note that it would be extremely difficult for WNW to release a ww1 kit I'd not be excited about.

Not a wildly adventurous choice but I do wish they'd get on and release a 'Viper' SE.5a; I'd love to see the ClIIIa Hannover, which would require minimal alterations (but won't happen) and I suspect the next release will be a Fokker Triplabne as they would sell in huge quantities.

Another vote for a DH4, possibly because i used to love the old Airfix kit when I was a kid, a Hanriot would be lovely, especially in the colourful Coppens markings. A Halberstadt two seater must be on the cards at some time..and what's happened to the Special editions??

To be honest, rather than be so secretive, I'd much prefer a list of proposed releases for the year ahead. Why not?

I love the secrecy over the releases, in the past more than one company from the east announced long model lists that in the end I suspect were and are more wishlist/interest level gauges, that's if I'm being nice and if i'm not then it could be argued it was a good way to keep an interest area all there own.

It costs a lot to release a new model and you need to have a reasonable idea that you can sell at least enough to break even and have a tidy profit for the next ones.

Just saying....

What were the special releases ? are they the Duelists?

This never occurred to me until now, but I'm thinking it could be the W.12 Late.

Ray,
The "Special Releases" referred to here are the upgraded Kits Wingnut Wings has been talking of since way back. They indicated that some (or all?) of their Kits would later be re-issued in upgraded format with more decals, photo etch, resin and possibly figures included, at least that is my understanding of their various statements. Much the same as the format employed on the Eduard Profipak Models was my interpretation. To date, as you see, no such product has appeared.
Cheers,
Lance

Thanks Lance, now it makes sense. I wonder if they really will do that now..  A Gotha with a ground crew loading bombs with extra PE would be pretty neat. Of course I’m hoping they do come out, so I can fill in the OOP gaps lol

Well, I think that the secretive ways of WNW pays off in many ways.

First if they were to put out a list of this years releases any delays would cause NO END of complaining from some Modeling circles. Think about the Camel and How long it took after its announcement. Second I think it does it's job in keeping their brand name in play. Look how many pages this thread has gone to now. If they had announced a Strutter the thread would have been hot for a few days then everyone would have moved on. Also look at the Time for the annual WNW Speculation thread. Years of conversation trying to guess the next release. Finally it certainly gives them food for thought on new releases by the many "Wants" and "suggestions" generated in these threads. A good test of the waters so to speak.  ::)

I would think that with the looooong lead times required to research the aircraft of interest, initial design of a kit for such aircraft, reiterations and changes necessary to make it a reasonably buildable model with sufficient accuracy and minimal brain damage to the modeler, test runs of the mould and parts quality, creating the instructions that have to actually represent the model in its final form, final production test shots and QC build exercises, it would not be a good idea, or feasible, to announce in advance.
