Outstanding work on the Lower panel! With your scratch building skills I am sure it was a breeze. That being said it has been something I have been hesitant to try for years  :-[

The hardest part was making it work on a 'conventional' model that splits top to bottom.

Isn't that Gaspatch Vickers lovely?

Richard,
This is anything but a "quick fix" or simple project as you termed it at the beginning. Having recently built the Hobby Craft version I know what a challenge this one presents and you are doing a splendid job of "taming" it! Great modelling, keep at it!
Cheers,
Lance

Yes - only the Lewis is too far forward. I'm making a new mount

Better!

Now, if you break the mount, the gun will tip back behind the wing. So the pilot could actually change the can

got a few of these kites in the queue.

your 'weekend build' is a major learning experience for me, taking notes all the way.

i'm only recently back into modeling. when i was an obsessed kid, we learned our skills from a few books and a monthly trip to the news stand. the internet is wonderful because i get to see the First Team build, step by step, the exact models i want to build.

thanks.

The remake of the mount for the Lewis is of course, even better  ;D

It's right on top of the model, very prominent. So it's important that it looks right - more so than something in the bottom of the cockpit

You know, the Gaspatch Vickers is a really, really lovely thing:

That's pretty much straight Gaspatch, apart from the locking lever. I swapped the flat etch for some copper wire

Excellent workmanship here.  This is a simple kit, but with a little work builds into a respectable model.  Your are certainly giving it respect and then some.
