1/32 Roden Siemens Schuckert D.III.
« on: April 30, 2017, 05:19:57 AM »
I've got a Pheon decal set complimented by Aviattic lozenge set as Roden decals are notoriously naff.
Lance mentioned the BrenGun PE kit but I'm not at ease with PE so I'll give that a miss. Somewhere I think I have some Gaspatch M/guns for this so I may use them. I haven't decided which markings I'll go for yet. Any suggestions are welcome.

Hi Toby, looking forward to your progress, lots of decal options to choose from.

There are indeed Juan. Too many :o

Started work by drilling and cutting out the hand holds on the fuselage and louvres on the bottom of the engine nacelle.

Will tidy up in due course when I go round removing all the flash.

I have this model in my stash and will follow your build closely. I also have the Pheon set and although the choice of decal options is hard, I'll go with Fritz Beckhardt's plane. There's a fascinating book about him written by his grandson "Der Jude mit dem Hakenkreuz", sadly only in German afaik. http://archive.new-books-in-german.com/english/1699/417/417/129002/design1.html
Jewish aviators in the German airservice of WWI rarely get the attention they deserve. I can only conratulate Pheon decals to include his plane and for not having forgotten Jacob Wolff in their brilliant Jasta 17 sheet. Just a hint if you need one to choose a decal option for your Soemens Schuckert  ;)

Borsos, certainly one to consider although I'm tempted by something more colourful. I'm such a tart.  ;)
I've just found the link to Lance's build and I'll be referring to that a lot.

Looking at it I look as though I've got the wrong lozenge set.

It's actually a great build. Seeing Lance's D III I realized again what a cool looking plane it is... 8)
I am sure you'll build an equal beauty!

Started initial work on the engine with both halves joined. Paint used was Vallejo MA gun grey for the main crank case and their steel for the cylinders with a black wash. Spark plugs painted white. I'll be using monofilament for the leads.

Lovely engine. The Kaydett is also really good - saw it and commented on UAMF.

Toby, I vote for scheme 4. Don't get more "tarted up" than that brilliant blue fuselage, with those "Kabuki face-paint" Black/white stripes!! Also, it will fit right in displayed beside your West Point of the Air Stearman.
Regards, Rob

I'm looking at either 4,5 or 7 so your choice should be safe. have Pmed you btw.
