James,
Thanks for commenting. If I ever finish it I hope to take it to the contest. It's Sat. 28 May at the Alberta Aviation Museum on Kingsway in Edmonton. They are calling it the Alberta Open Model Show and contest this year, still hosted by the Edmonton IPMS Chapter. Theme is the Cold War. Details are on the IPMS Edmonton web site.
Cheers,
Lance

I'm overdue for an update on this Build as it's getting close to complete. Close is a relative term considering my documented snail's pace on the progress front. :o
I've completed the Flight Control rigging and added the bombs to make her into a bomber. I'm pleased to say all but 4 wires of the rigging are done, it's been a long, and at times, trying experience taking this one to the inpenetrable wire cage state!

The first step was mounting the flight control surfaces and control horns:

I tried to work from closest in to outside to avoid breaking any previous installations. EZ Line was used for the rudder, tailskid, and elevators to preclude warping the lattice tail, and the ailerons used .003mm mono line and Modelkasten 1:48 line.

I lost count of how many times I pinged off the rudder by being clumsy; on the good side I only broke two lines and had to replace them.

With that completed I moved on to the bombs which had been completed earlier. The 20 lb. Cooper bombs proved an easy task.

Not so the single center line 112 lb. HERL Bomb, the rack proved a real test, particularly the rigging and the forward verticals had to be widened almost 4 mm to fit. This assembly took me through an entire afternoon of bench time!

The rigging, working in such a tiny confined space gave plenty of opportunity for exercise of my "King's English"! >:( :(

This shot should have come earlier, showing the splitter coupling for the rudder/tailskid lines.

I almost forgot Stefan had asked for a couple of close ups of the line connections; here they are about as brutal as Macro Photography can present them!

Next come the "fiddley bits", the step, Bomb sight, Lewis Gun, and all the night illumination devices and bomb toggle cables etc. Hopefully the next update can announce her completion!
Cheers,
Lance

You have done a superb job with the rigging Lance and even though it may have taken some time the centre bomb rack looks brilliant, well done.

Lance, the rigging is phenomenal!  Thank you for the information regarding the
differences between EZ line and Modelkasten.  I can't get over the beauty of the
aeroplane with the rigging in place.  You have created a stunner, my friend!

Cheers,
Ernie :)

What a gem this will be in your display case, Lance!  An amazing model and execution.

Can I inquire about the fasteners that attach the rigging to the top of the triangular "sail"  fin atop the tail plane?  Am I correct that it is kit p/e, or did you devise it yourself?  (I am thinking about the similar rigging on the tail of my Brisfit).

Well done, Sir.   :)

Chris,
Thanks for your comments. The fitting on the top of the stab is Kit included PE. IIRC the Brisfit had a two line one supplied as well? They really add a nice touch.

Lance

Thank you Lance. The photo following the above text shows a blank (as in "not covered in paint") attachment point. I assume you have that covered/reperaired/touched up by now?

Are those colourful bombs' stripes decals?

Lance, this is such a great Job, you did! Wonderful!! I like th Fe2b late and would like to make it one of the night bombers too - if I would only dare to buy one model: I am really afraid of the rigging-task...
Rock on!
Richard

I think you have mastered the fiddley bits, Lance  :D

Just caught up again Lance and what a leap forward - 'superb'  immediately springs to mind  ;)  - a real testimony to the attribute of patience if ever one was needed.

Looking forwards to the roll out - this ones going to be great addition to your collection  :)

Thanks for looking and commenting, Gents.
Stefan,
Although I've attempted to touch up as I've progressed this spot, along with many others, still needs a dab of paint. The white, or silver dots you see are mostly tiny flecks of the Mr. Metal Colour "Stainless" applied to all the rigging. On the EZ Line wires this flecks off when I bump into it or even just move the model around during work and stretch the line even just a bit. It easily dusts off the finish. On the mono and Modelkasten runs it adheres very well. The green and red stripes on the bombs are Kit Decals which worked very well, although I wish Wingnut Wings would supply a few spares of these little tiny add-ons.

Richard, I wouldn't be too intimidated by the rigging, it is a long tedious job but more time is spent getting a sequence worked out, lots of "what ifing" to be worked into the flow! It's a great Kit but there are a few errors in the Plans Booklet and contained Parts call-out. I found the wing struts number sequence a bit of a challenge........could be a personal problem on my part but it got solved in the end.

von Buckle Builder, Thanks! The "fiddly bits" will be defeated, just a matter of lots of time!

Tug, Thanks for the comments, patience is indeed a virtue, and just walking away for a few minutes is a great part of that concept!

I may take a break from this beast today and just do a critical inspection and a few dabs of base colours to clean the finish up a tad.
Cheers,
Lance
