Hmm so I think I could do a Dutch khaki F by covering up the engine, altering the exhaust and snaffling  the louvred cowling option for the F kit from some fellow forumites perhaps....?

It depends on which kit you are starting with. I think the Fokker-built boxing has everything you need except the BMW motor sprue (which is still available separately.) and the louvered upper cowl panels, and exhaust (sprue G.) If you are starting from the OAW or Alb versions, you'll need to scrounge the Fokker-style cowl panels and undercarriage airfoil, or modify as necessary.

Forum member IvotB knows a great deal about Fokkers used by the LVA; you might want to pick his brain...

For me, the surprise with the Wingnuts Fokker D.VII series is how few you see built. The D.VIIF kit has been available since March 2013, and although the D.VII is one of the best known aircraft from WW1, it doesn't seem to translate into many finished builds anywhere. Maybe we're just buying the kits now for future projects as a hedge against them selling out? Not a silly strategy by the way.

I was planning to order a D.VII F as well. So now I'm too late. On the other hand let's look at the differences. The main difference is that the F used the BMW engine in stead of the Mercedes D.III. So the cowlings may show some differences too. If you check the WnW website and see which sprues are included in the only D.VII version still available, you will find that these are actually the only differences between the D.VIIF and the D.VII Alb. The BMW engine sprue can be bought as a separate item and we'll just have to copy Bo's technique for making cowlings :). And of course find an appropriate decal set.

As far as I'm aware there are some modifications on D.VIIF versions flying with the Royal Netherlands Naval Air Services, but these were modifications after WWI.  The D.VIIF's in the LVA in the Netherlands all had ordinary fuselages but ofcourse with the BMW engine and modified cowlings.

So I guess anyone wanting to build a D.VIIF as WWI plane still could order the D.VII Alb, which is still for sale at WnW and do some scratchbuilding for the cowlings. There may be another difference that I'm not aware of, but seems to be part of the D.VII Alb kit and that is the fairing in between the main wheels of the landing gear.

regards,
Ivo

I have purchased three and built three! An Early Fokker built, OAW, and the DVII F. I have a fourth on the way soon but actually don't know which version as it is a gift from an old friend.

I have two built and three in the Stash including an F Model. A beautifully kitted model but five will do me!  ;)

I just pulled the trigger on a D.VII (Alb). I didn't have that one in my stash. Please forgive me, I'm weak! It's a illness! :-[

I just blew my cash that I set aside for the Xmas release. If WnW comes up with something really cool then I'm screwed. (Not that it will sell out in a month, I'm sure I'll pick it up later)

My name is George and I'm a Wingnut-holic. :-\

George, Thank you for going first at the mic. I too, have pulled the trigger on a DVII, and an OAW Albie, just, ah, in case. I too, will now need to save a bit for what ever WNW releases, when they do.
Who wants to go next?
